Aprilia habana 125 idle too high despite adjustment

I couldn't get my scooter started after a period of time and jumped to the wrong conclusions, and began making adjustments to both the idle and air/fuel mixture screws.... when I finally found out that it was simply the kill switch on the handle bar !!! - I got the bike running, but it idle's way to fast, even when warmed up... I can't get it lower even with idle adjustment.. Could the cause be due to too rich a mixture? I don't want to make it worse by fiddelling any more with the mixture screw... does any one know the default mixture screw number of turns??

SOURCE: Engine dies after quad is warmed up (10-15 minutes)

Just a hunch, had this happen to a bike of mine years ago, could be the piston rings are gettting ready to go(wore down). What happens is when the quad is cold the rings expand tight into the cylinder walls allowing it to get full compression and run ok. When it heats up they shrink allowing the slightest amount of give which in turn will cause you problems similar to what your describing.

SOURCE: Hyosun Scooter Carb Adjustments

Very good thought process on the adjustments. The throttle screw sets the idle speed and the air screw sets the fuel mix at idle speed. The stock setting is 1.5 turns outward. IMPORTANT > do not tighten these two adjusters down. Only screw these in until they LIGHTLY seat. Now turn each adjuster one and one half turns outward.

From this point you adjust the idle speed then adjust the air screw for fastest idle speed at that throttle screw setting. If the idle speed becomes faster than desired after adjustment, just reset the throttle screw and then reset the air screw.

A “very helpful” rating for this answer? Thanks!

SOURCE: 2004 XL 1200 C won't pass emmisions, CO too high

No this is not right. I would see what size your pilot jet is , drop a number and try again. Less than one and a half turns out on the adjustment screw usually means your pilot jet is too large

SOURCE: Yamaha DT 125 1986 - High Revs when idling

There have an air leak between the carb and the cylinder and/or the head and cylinder. Old hard / cracked rubber fittings and O rings are usually the problem. When extra air gets into the system it leans the fuel mix and the high idle is the result. It also means the engine runs hotter. Also, cracked or broken reeds can be a source.
