2001 Harley Davidson FXDWG Dyna Wide Glide no spark @

Hi, Rickwolff and the usual suspects are: 1. Fouled spark plugs. 2. Severely discharged or a damaged battery should have 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test if necessary, you may have a preliminary reading of 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amperage the battery is faulty and must be replaced, AGM batteries fail in this scenario more so than lead-acid batteries. 3. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary. 4. Loose connection at ignition coil or plug between ignition sensor and module. 5. Spark plug cables in bad condition, shorting/leaking, spark plug cable connections loose check for spark leakage in the dark. 6. A faulty ignition coil or electronic control module. 7. Faulty pulse coil. 8. Faulty CKP, CMP, or BAS sensor. 9. Faulty ignition switch. 10. Faulty run/off switch 11. Tilt sensor needs a reset. 12. 2002 Harley Davidson FXDWG Dyna Wide Glide no electrical power @

Hi, Tracy, this is the sort of electrical problem that is probably mechanical. In other words, a complete failure like this suggests there is a break in the wiring or a blown fuse. If nothing on the bike is working, but the battery is fully charged, there are not many parts of the bike that can cause that lack of power. I can only recommend starting at the battery and working your way along with the wiring, checking every connection, including the ignition switch. There is probably a broken connection or failed electrical part that should be obvious when you come across it. 2002 Harley Davidson FXDWG Dyna Wide Glide not charging @

Hi, Anonymous before testing any electrical component in the Charging System it is "IMPERATIVE" that you have a fully charged battery of 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test if necessary, you may have a preliminary reading of 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amperage, the battery is faulty and must be replaced. AGM type batteries fall into this scenario more so than lead-acid batteries. All voltage readings will be on the DC scale except for Stator Output which will be AC you will need a multi-meter to conduct the following tests. "WARNING" never plug or unplug any electrical connector in the charging system with the engine running !!! 1. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary. 2. Check the voltage drop at the battery when you hit the starter button, anything below 9.6 volts you might have a faulty battery. 3. Make sure your voltage regulator is properly grounded with a clean tight connection, then check voltage at the battery with the bike running between 2000-3600 RPM, depending on your system specs, your readings should be 14.3 to 14.7 volts. If you are not getting these numbers or the reading is 15 volts or higher replace the voltage regulator. 4. Faulty regulator diodes can allow excessive amounts of voltage going back to the battery causing it to overheat, boil its contents and swell the casing. The excessive voltage will also spike the charging system allowing light bulbs to surge brighter than normal until they fail along with the main circuit breaker. 5. Unplug the connector to the alternator and hook your multimeter leads to the alternator (pin/socket selection does not matter) set the multimeter to AC volts, at an idle the multimeter should read 16 to 20 volts AC. at 2,000 RPM 32 to 40 AC volts, 3,000 RPM 48 to 60 AC volts. If you are not getting these numbers, you may have a faulty alternator rotor. 6. Set the multimeter to OHM'S, connect one lead to the alternator (any pin/socket) and the other to the ground, the multimeter should read infinity. Connect both leads to the alternator multimeter should read 0.1 to 0.2 ohms. If you are not getting these numbers, you have a bad stator. 7. Check all wiring in the charging circuit for worn or chaffed spots and all wiring connectors in the circuit for corroded, broken, or loose pins/sockets, which is the # 1 offender. 98 W/Glide forks out of alignment how do I straighten them? @

Hi, Max if you have a minor accident, lay your bike down and the front end gets 'TWEAKED" where the front wheel is going in one direction and your handlebars are going in the opposite direction, despair not, there is a quick fix. 1. If your handlebars are turning right turn the front end all the way to the right making contact with the fork stop. Find the 10:00 o'clock position on the front wheel and give it a good swift kick with your foot, put the front wheel in a straight-forward position and eyeball the orientation of the handlebar. Usually, it only takes one or two kicks to get everything back to normal. If you overshoot, no big scare, just turn the front end all the way to the left fork stop and find the 2:00 o'clock position and give it a soft kick. 2. If your handlebars are turning left turn the front end all the way to the left fork stop. Find the 2:00 o'clock position on the front wheel and give it a good swift kick with your foot, put the front wheel in a straight-forward position and eyeball the orientation of the handlebar. Usually, it only takes one or two kicks to get everything back to normal. If you overshoot, no big scare, just turn the front end all the way to the right fork stop and find the 10:00 o'clock position and give it a soft kick. Continue the process until you are comfortable with the alignment. It's always a good idea to retorque any accessible handlebar riser bolts as well as the upper and lower fork clamps to proper book specs. 1997 Harley Davidson Wide Glide running on one cylinder @

Hi, Clifford, you need "FIVE" things in order for a cylinder to run properly: 1. FUEL: in order to validate your not getting fuel spray some starting fluid into the air cleaner and hit the starter button, if it fires up and runs for a few seconds then you know you have a fuel delivery issue. Multi carb banks should be bench "SYNC" 2. SPARK: remove the spark plug and with it connected to the spark plug cable ground the threads to something metal you should see a bluish-white spark if not you have a faulty spark plug, spark plug cable, ignition coil, condenser, CKP, ECM, sensor or the wiring in between. 3. COMPRESSION: you must have at least 80-100 PSI for most bikes, multi-cylinder engines should be within 10-15% of each other if not perform a leak down test you may have a burnt or bent valve or hole in the piston or broken rings. 4. CAM TIMING: confirm your timing marks are aligned to see if the cam chain or adjuster are worn out and the chain has skipped a couple of teeth. 5. IGNITION TIMING: on older bikes check to see if your points have not closed up, timing plate has not become loose and confirm with a timing light for proper retard and advance functions, on newer bikes where timing is controlled by an ECM and is nonadjustable check you CKP, TPS, MAP, O2, sensor or its counterpart for integrity.
