2005 Nissan Sentra Logo
Anonymous Posted on Jul 13, 2011

I just bought a used 2005 Nissan Sentra from a local dealer. It was running OK but within one week the "Service Engine Soon" light came up and has been on so far. Autozone read out two codes: P0455 "Evaporative Emission Leak" and P1446 "Vent Control Valve". Asked the dealer and their mechanic says it might be improper starting, bad gas, or bad gas cap, but I suspect there's something wrong with the vent control valve instead. Anyone got experience with these errors? The car is still running but I'm afraid it might suddenly go wrong some day.

Yes, the defect is clearly in the valve: as the error says it's non responsive and stuck partially open. It's not a big problem, the engine will just run a little rough and use more fuel.
To fix that just replace the valve and check all the pipes.

Thanks. What I'm confused about is the two codes showing up together. If the only problem is the vent control valve, according to the service manual it seems P0455 indicates the valve is stuck open while P1446 means it's stuck closed. So you mean if the valve is stuck partially open the two codes will both come up?

Actually the second error code says that the ECM can't control the valve, whatever the position is stuck on - in your case partially open.

I have a 2005 Nissan Altima 2.5 S 4 cylinder - went to get gas (just a bit, did not fill up) on Christmas and soon afterward the 'service engine soon' light came on. Called the Nissan dealer

When last did you service the vehicle ?
did they use the proper fuel ?

Chances are the service time is near where you will need to do a basic service, Plug , plug wires, filters etc. And reset the counter.
the fuel ting is just a coincidence.

I have 27000 miles on my Nissan Sentra (2006) 1.8S. For the last 3 months the "service engine soon light" has been staying on. I checked the gas cap, which clicked. But the light stays on. ...

Its telling you that you have a recommended service coming up at 30K miles. The dealer will reset the light when you bring the car in. Nissan recommends you to do your maintence's every 7500 miles. A 30K service will consist of an oil change, change air filter, coolant flush, replace PCV valve, in cabin air filter, along with checking many other systems in your vehicle. Hope this helps.

Service Engine soon light in 2007 sentra

Take your car to a local auto parts store like Autozone or Checkers and they will download it for free. Or take it to the dealer. Depending on if it is still under warranty

Service engine soon nissan sentra 1998

HI. This will require you to have the engine CPU scanned for trouble code's. This can only be administered with the assistance of a diagnostic computer scan tool. You can purchase this tool, at your local auto parts store, or you can just have the scan ran at your local auto zone parts store, free of charge. Once the diagnostic scan is administered, you will be able to isolate the issues that have caused the check engine light to illuminate.

This scan tool will display a print out code and the location of the issue, on the engine, as well. There are Many issues that will cause the engine light to illuminate, but the most common cause will be a failed monitoring sensor, or sensor harness failure(separated power wire, or ground).

Once you have the codes, kindly return to the site, and post them here. We will be able to assist with more accuracy, once the codes are posted.

Thanks..

Light just came on: service engine soon... 2005

Just take it to a shop and have somebody look at it. It could just be maintenance that needs to be done. When was the last time the oil was changed? Newer cars are programmed to turn that light on at specific intervals to ensure proper and timely maintenance is performed.

My 05 Sentra died twice on me and is running very sluggish...

it could be that your fuel pump could be weak. or that it's in the electrical circuit of your fuel system. what that means is that the sensors that help read the performance of your fuel system could be malfunctioning. this would involve the O2(oxygen) the TPS(throttle position sensor. or it could be the fuel pressure regulater. you could probably go to a small garage and have scan done cheaper than if you take it to a dealership.hope this helps please rate this ......thanks and good luck

Service engine soon light

Thisi s a problem my daughter had on her 2003 nissan and it was under a voluntary recall so if you bring it to dealer and tell them they have to replace swirl Valve free. It regulates the fuel. I have a 2005 nissan that had other engine codes and I have asked them to check swirl valve but I am getting run around from my dealer. Get it done at dealer asap or it can cause other problems with fuel system.
