The breake light and abs lights comes on and off, was told it was the computer chip, how much would it be to get it repair?

The first thing to do is have the body computer scanned for codes to find out whats going on with the ABS system.

well a check engine light can come on for a bad o2 sensor the abs light coming on at higher speeds i would look at the front axle joint for the pick up rings i see them rust and split that split throws off the speed reading and the abs computer see different wheel speeds due to the crack you can get a remain axle to repair it

-Don't worry. Even the abs is not function properly but the basic brake still work like normal car.

you could always go to the wreckers and pickup used component(s) to replace the damaged ones.i assume that this was checked out by a shop and your not going by what someone has told you.

This is most likely one of 2 things 1 the abs sensor on one wheel is faulty, not uncommon cost about $80 for a new one. or you can clean the old one as often they get dirty from brake dust.

secondly the brake pads may need replacing, the ABS warning light is to let you know that these may need replacing, often when it is the brakes they will fel different as you press it down, sometimes they push back up towards you as your pushing down. I would have the back brakes checked as that is normally the cause.

you can still drive the car no problem.

The ABS brake light will go on whenever it doesn't see a signal coming from the wheel speed sensor on any of the 4 wheels.

May need to have it scanned for ABS Brake codes to determine which wheel is affected.

Do you know which lights where on for sure? If it is ABS light, then it could be any of the brake system or ABS system itself. It the brake light was not on, then it may not be the problem. Is the light still on after repair? The light would have to be shut off by computer after the parts where repaired

I also have a 96' shasta RV 26' E350 Ford chassis... ABS light comes on whenever it feels like it. We have 20,000 miles on the RV. We love the Motorhome but am constantly worried about the light. Our mechanic said not to worry about it.. Not worth the expense to fix it. anyone have a clue? grandmanomi

I HAD ALMOST THE SAME PROBLEM .THIS CAR HAVE WAT SHOULD BE A RECALL WITH THE ABS SENSORS AT THE WHEEL .WHICH RUST BUIILDS ON THE SPINDLE AND THE BREAK THE SENSORS ..I END UP REPLACING THE BACK SENSORS AND THE SPINDLES .PLUS I WAITED SO LONG THAT THE ABS PUMP ALSO NEEDED REPLACEMENT ..GOT EXPENCIVE EVEN WITH DEALER EMPLOYEE DISCOUNT .I SPENT 1500 DOLLARS

Your ABS Computer is likely failing. They have problems with the solder joints on the circuit board, causing a code to be set and the lights to come on. Very common on this vehicle!
