My daughters Volvo, an S60, has a severe radio problem. It starts out playing fine, then flashes ''reversing aid'' and/or ''telephone'' then beeps incessantly and cannot be shut off or stopped till the car is shut off. Our mechanic could not find a problem. We don't know if its a radio problem or other wiring problem. Thank you for your help

Is the vehicle fitted with the standard stereo fitted by the manufacturer? If not, then there is a strong chance that these controls are not compatible.
the symtoms you describe sounds like a battery fault. but if you have had the battery properley tested and is good then you either have something discharging the battery intermittantly ie. trunk light staying on or a high resistance in the main battery leads or earth connections
Check the front and rear transmission mounts on the transmission.Excessive play will make the car bang when it is put in gear, especially reverse.Put the hood up and have someone watch the engine movement in forward and reverse.Make sure they stand to the side of the car. With your foot firm on the brake ,give it a quick push and release on the gas pedal that takes the rpm up to 2800 to 3000 rpm.If the engine moves more than 1/2 inch, suspect the mounts.
I have seen this before.
Also volvo have a software upgrade for that car.
Our shop had one that had the "check transmission".lit up.
After volvo upgraded the software it was fine.
The cost was 90 dollars.
That is a "Dealership only" information.
The power steering can be noisy as well.
Drain the power steering system and add synthetic fluid.
You will be amazed at the difference.
This car won't start unless the gear is in the P position. Some times the sensor that tells the computer that the gear is in the P position doesn't make a good contact and the car won't start. Move the gear backwards and forwards until it makes a good contact and the car will start again.
Make sure that you have the transmission software updated. Volvo has had many upgrades on their transmission's control software to address these exact symptoms.
