Hi M,
Are you the M from H M Secret Service? You've no need to shoot me! Take the car to a service agent and have them reset the service range on their scanner....It should be done electronically and will best be done with the service tool provided to agents...

How to turn the sevice warning light off after oil change ?

BMW Model E39 built from 1996~2000 will have a port like the one shown below. A Reset tool like a Peake R5 or R5-FCX is needed to reset the oil service or inspection service lights after required service.

1) If you have a reset tool then turn your car key to Position II but do not start the car.
2) Turn the cap counter clock wise on the Data Link Connector and insert the Reset Tool
3) Follow the instructions of your reset tool, different models may have different functions however they all create a short in PIN 7 to PIN 19 for a given amount of time.

  • OIL Service Reset requires pin 7 and 19 to be closed for 3+ seconds
  • INSPECTION Service Reset requires pin 7 and 19 to be closed for 10+ seconds

  • 4) Once done, remove the reset tool and close the cap .
    5) Your dash should light up with green lights at this point.
If the light did NOT reset after the above steps then you might be resetting Oil Service however an Inspection Service is needed.

did the sevice light come on before you serviced it? when you "serviced" it I assume you changed the oil and now need the service light reset.
I bought the 1998 S70. it got time to change the oil. Being how I am I changed the oil myself. I had to call dealership about resetting the service light.
    they said $29.96.
I said 29.95?!!! how much if YOU would have changed my oil and reset the light?
    they said $29.95.
so I learned you need to access the OBDII to reset the light.after service. hope this helps.

    Considering buying the car.

I have the CLK 550 Cabriolet. The engine for this car puts out 382 hp and 390 ft. lbs. of torque--the power is smooth and linear, and the exhaust makes a nice growl when you really get on it. Unfortunately, the suspension lags far behind the engine--the suspension is way too soft for what is supposed to be a sporty car. Supposedly, the car can be ordered with a sport suspension from the factory, but no dealers in the entire L.A. area had any in stock--they all said the sport suspension could only be had if it was special ordered--since I didn't want to wait three months for the car--big mistake--I took one off the lot. Basically, it is a very good car, but for the price--msrp of $71k--it is lacking in a few areas. I'm happy with the car & i Recommed it.

CL55 AMG or CLK55 AMG? Opinions

2003 CL55 with the AMGV8K engine is a superior car. A different league. Like all things, there are compromises. It handless less well than a CLK55. The CLK55 is not a track car by any means either. I'm sure the CLK55 outhandles a CL65 also, but the two cars are not in the same planet.
