Security light on my mazda miata wont turn off

first off it is not a real OPG, oil pressure gauge. NA/NB/NC MX5

1995 was the first mx5 fake gauge (a switch). (mine are all 1996/2000 cars)
Your gauge is real gauge.
the early sensor is larger and expensive, and hard to get now and the fitting sizes is 1/8 X 28 ISO Tapered Thread. So testing the gallery port needs adapters to that size.

what if the sender now is wrong kind for 1996 up.???? big is good, tiny is wrong on yours.


a bad sender is common this old 1993.or the gauge. but the list is large and 1 test proves the cause.

The car does have low oil pressure (not bad sender/gauge) list.

A real tech measures it using a real gauge to know if the sender is good or bad.
Ok it is too low: (using a mech,s real hand gauge)

There now lets see why it is too low, for sure.

1: wrong oil in engine, 0w oil try and run Mobil1 10W40.
2: gasoline petrol in the oil, from a leaking injector. (bad injectors) sniff the dips stick end,.smell raw fuel>>?
3: engine bearings bad, (rod,/ crank .cam).
4: engine Oil level crazy too low, use the dip stick and check.
5: oil is 29 years old. oops. (joking but ????)
6: the joker at the quickk-o-Llube joint put antifreeze or brake fluid in the oil filler hole. or worse, yes.
7: Engine or head cracks put coolant in the oil pan, (dip stick shows chocolate milk color for oil real.
8: bad OIL pump after 29 years, that be common.(or its bypass valve stuck open)
9: engine RPM at idle is way way too low, 500? not 800 hot normal RPM
10:wrong oil filter on the car, ( learn that there are 2 kinds of engine filters, full flow and partial. (is why) use WIX filters on this car not FRAM.

no oil too hot. ( engine is way overheated.)

the pump is 55psi regulated at pump for max.
the 15psi is common hot idle (real) 30psi cold is par. again 55 is max max. at pump.

on 95+ car the cheaper sender switch is 7.5PSI trips open fail.

why not ask tech to check out if the guage lies. first or the visuals above checked,

That is somewhat normal for an oil pump to not build all that much pressure until the engine turns more rpm's.

You better check the oil and read the instruction book, they gotta tell you what that means.

No there is a problem take it to the dealer you are under warrenty get it check right away. Could be a bad gauge but also could be a problem with the oil pump or a leak somewhere.

no transmission oil. It uses good old gear oil. check with your local parts store for the correct weight.

That toggle switch is for the security system. That year miata never came with any switches for the soft top of any kind. Most likely that is an aftermarket alarm system. Most factory alarm systems do not come with a toggle switch.

you'll hjave to get the vehicle scanned for codes. it could be a variety of problems. eg. egr, O2 sensor . without scanning it for codes you could be replacing may different parts in your vehicle. take it to a repair shop where they have the equiptment to check for codes.
