Tip & How-To about Cars & Trucks

How to ask a question.

When asking a technical question regarding vehicular repair, I can only assume that if you are seeking knowledge, you are doing the repairs yourself. This raises a concern with me when the questions asked are vague, lack details as simple as year/make/model/engine size and type, lack correct terminology/spelling, improper references, etc.

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE BASIC PHYSICAL/ELECTRICAL/MECHANICAL KNOWLEDGE, YOUR CHANCES OF A SUCCESSFUL REPAIR AND PERSONAL SAFETY ARE AT RISK.

That is why there are mechanics. Sometimes a basic, low cost repair can turn into thousands of dollars if done incorrectly. For example, just a simple $2.00 fuse installed incorrectly can do irreversible damage to a $3000.00 ECM or other sensitive electronic component. Inexperience in properly supporting vehicles or securing heavy components can result in property damage, serious injury and possible death.

My advice is based on personal experiences. Many variables can determine your outcome. Advice/information from friends, co workers and research is used whenever I do a repair. I have education I paid for so I assume it to be correct. I use my knowledge as a base and may not have specific experience with your vehicle. I am currently employed as a diesel/refrigeration technician.

I ACCEPT NO RESPONSIBILTY FOR ANY DAMAGES/INJURIES TO ANYTHING/ANYONE AS A RESULT OF YOUR REPAIRS/PROCEDURES.

1994 Ford f350 diesel 7.3 idi..what is a cluster, u see the dash at the frame rail? This question was prior for my fuel tank stuck on pass full while keys off. Could someone show me a picture of what I'm seeking for? Thanks

I recently tried the DIY service and repair manuals from a website and it actually helped me repair transmission problem in my jcb 3cx site-master.

It would'nt move forward or reverse, engine was good both solenoids for forward and reverse worked, but still couldn't diagnose the problem.
I don't have much technical knowledge but I just followed it step-wise, and now it works perfect! covers wiring, codes, diagrams, torque specs, PCV, everything
got it from www.reliable-store.com

My a/c unit is blowing hot air in my 2005 dodge caravan. How do I fix it?

You go to a repair shop that does A/C work

It, I assume, has a leak & lost the refrigerant

You can't just add yourself without finding
& resolving the leak first

Need knowledge & proper equipment to work
on a/c

my abs light came on and i had it diagnased and it said that c1246 andc1286 in ebcm,absrear motor test did not pass,ebcm operating properly abs motor pack internally malfunctioning what does this mean,where are the parts located and what parts do i need to fix myself ,i dont have any money to spend on new parts ,what do i do thanks

Real simple

I never believe the no money statements,if you were serious,
you wouldn't be here

You start by telling us if you even understand what you said or
have any ability to work on todays technology

You won't understand any explaination about what your asking
& you already had the car diagnosed to some extent & had the
chance to ask all kinds of questions at the repair shop

You simply as I started,can not diagnose or repair the abs issues
your having, yourself
It is too technical & you have no test equipment or knowledge
to even start somewhere

You can not be told to throw parts at it either, as the problem
has to be difinitively found first.

Simply beyond your capability to do any thing

You will find that for the last 16 years since 1996 OBD2
vehicle systems came out, that the days of working in your
driveway are gone for ever ,unless it is a mechanical repair

''Transmission service ugent'' what do I do?

With all due respect, you clearly lack the skills or knowledge to diagnose and fix this yourself or you would not be asking here.

Just do what the message is telling you and get the vehicle to a repair garage promptly, preferably a Volvo main dealer. The longer you delay, the bigger the final repair bill as this won't fix itself.

Hi,

Appreciate the "Ask Me".

The technically proper diagnostic procedure would be to have the car's computer scanned and the readings interpreted for errors. The error codes would determine the "probable" defects.

To my knowledge, there were at least three (3) Technical Service Bulletins for '97 Escorts:
1. July '98 - wiring harness/loom for power control module;
2. Oct '98 - change IAC valve with a new design/version; and
3. Oct '98 - change power control module (PCM).

All of the above directly affects idling (among others) and are strictly dealer repairs. If however you would prefer a DIY (do-it-yourself), then you would probably want to focus on:
a. locate the PCM and connect a grounding wire to pin 28;
b. remove, check/clean/replace the IAC valve and the throttle body/assy with special precautions. Pls reference this page for additional information;
c. or it maybe as simple as a return spring out of position for the idle level. I believe their are available aftermarket idle repair kits for Escorts that are comparable if not better.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
