10 minutes after I bought it, the turbo blew. When the turbo was replaced, the engine started to leak......mechanic says where the block and girdle meet are leaking????? Did not want to attempt to fix it. (by pulling out the engine and torquing down the bolts) recommended replacing the engine. I have had two mechanics say the the engine is leaking..........they are totally awed at this fact. Does this sound correct???? I have not even had this car in my driveway for a week. It has been at the mechanics for 4 months being diagnosed by multiple mechanics........please help
Everything is intact with the turbo and lines. The oil can be seen leaking from the motor at the back.............there is a dye added to the oil so the mechanics can see it easier. Thanks for the idea though!Everything is intact with the turbo and lines. Sounds like rubber seal is leaking, check the rubber seals along the side of the windshield and along the inner door. The seal can be easily replaced or patched with silicon sealeant.
bigger is not better when it comes to turbo units as Leyland found out when they fitted a turbo to a 690 diesel that resulted in the destruction of the engines and damage to the company reputation of a reliable engine manufacturer
Subsequent engineering found that a much smaller turbo produced more power without the destroying the engine
The turbo fitted to the engine originally is the correct unit for the maximum power that the engine mechanicals can handle
What you have to do is to ensure that the variable vanes of the turbo are working correctly and there are no boost pressures lost from intercooler leaks and loose hoses
Run the fault codes to determine sensor and actuators for the existing turbo are fully operational
Water in combustion chamber makes white smoke--suspect that the head gasket is leaking water into the chamber. If oil leaking around turbo, it may have a bad bearing and bad oil seal. Check waste gate valve and control.

Sounds like you have lost vacume to the break booster, chk for a leak in the hose from engine to the booster, if no leak in hose than the booster is bad.
It's very common for the turbo return line seal to leak. That is what I would check first, when it leaks, it will spray oil all over the turbo lines and the rear of the engine.
Could be the Turbo oil return pipe seal, its a cheap about $10 but you need to get to the pipe. Its just a bit tricky to reach and you will need the gasket to go on the other end of the pipe when you take it off. Its a well know fault check the Volvo Forums web site.
I don't know about the turbo running at half, but I can give you two ideas.
If it only started after the timing belt was replaced there is a very good chance that the timing is off. The car has very specific instructions due to the variable valve timing.
There is also a chance that there is a hole in one of the turbo hoses. One way to check for a leaking turbo hose is to put the car in reverse and set the parking brake. have someone listen for a large air leak while you power stall the engine. if there is a leak it will make a lot of noise and you can feel for it with your hand, just don't burn yourself.
DO NOT POWERSTALL THE ENGINE MORE THAT THIRTY SECONDS AT A TIME AND NO MORE THAN TWICE. IT WILL GET VERY HOT VERY QUICKLY.
DO NOT SHUT OFF THE ENGINE RIGHT AFTER POWERSTALLING. THERE IS TO MUCH HEAT AND COULD CAUSE DAMAGE. LET THE ENGINE IDLE FOR THREE MINUTES AND IT WILL BE FINE.
Everything is intact with the turbo and lines. The oil can be seen leaking from the motor at the back.............there is a dye added to the oil so the mechanics can see it easier. Thanks for the idea though!
