This is yet another question about my 1999 mazda protege, I replaced the battery and altenator but the battery light still came on after just a few short rides in the car, what else could be wrong????

Battery light keeps coming on. Battery and altenator was replaced. Belt was tightened. When pulls up on hand brake and gives her gas the light goes off for those few seconds.

Check the wiring to the alternator for signs of overheated connectors, replace as needed and don't use crimp connectors solder all wiries and shrink tube them to insuklate the solder joints.

SOURCE: 2002 Mazda Protege ABS & Brake light

It is most likely caused by one of the ABS wheel speed sensors, those little cylindrical nipples on the back of your rotors with the cable attached to them. One way to confirm it is to read out the OBD2 codes for the ABS system, but there are some checks you can do. Visually check all four cables and sensors , and make sure there is no build up on the sensors. Make sure that the connector they plug into has good connections. Look at the wheel speed sensor and make sure the gap between the sensor head and the sprocket is the same on all four wheels (should be no more than a mm). Disconnect the wheel speed sensor cable and use an ohm-meter to check the resistance of all four sensors (they should all be similar, but don't remember the value exactly). There is a way to just disable the ABS by pulling out the 60A fuse, but if you do that you may have to plug in a code reader and use a grounding jumper on the ABS electical access box (don't remember which pin) to reset the ABS faults, otherwise you won't be able to drive around like that because your engine rpm at high speeds will behave erratically. Also, do not drive around without fixing this problem or bypassing ABS completely because it could get you into an accident. My ABS problem was intermittent, and the ABS would sometimes kick in on completely dry pavement as soon as I touched the break pedal, it almost caused me to rear-end a car on couple of occasions.

SOURCE: Possibly battery-related problem with '02 Mazda Protege

It sounds like the car's security system is going off. Is there a key fob to lock/unlock doors and turn on alarm? If there is, connect battery, and immediately press alarm/unlock button to turn alarm off.
I have a truck with an aftermarket alarm system installed by the previous owner, my battery died, and when I hooked up a new one the alarm went off, and it took a while before I hit the key fob button, but it stopped it. Let me know if this works for u.

1999 mazda protege headlights

The head lights are powered by the battery through the ignition switch. The headlight relay may be malfunctioning.

I have found a link for your car in case you wish to replace. It's the same I use to buy parts for my car. I hope it's useful.

I have a 2003 Mazda protege 5. check engine light no codes

Remove the wire from the negative terminal on the battery and wait a few minutes, then reconnect the wire. This will "reset" the computer and remove the check engine light. If the light comes back on, take it to a Mazda service center and let them read the code. They will be able to tell you what is wrong. Removing the front brake rotor on a 1998 Mazda Protege

You do not have to remove the big center nut. You might have to tap on it with a hammer to get it off. If there is anything solid near it to pry against (don't pry against the dust shield) try that too. If none of this helps you can try heating it near the center. You should be able to get it off without heating it but it is possible that that is what you will have to do.
