The sensor in the coolant resivor may need to be replaced. You may want to take a look at it as this could cause this type of situation.

If you need to buy a new sensor, here's a link to them.

SOURCE: Low coolant light flashes continually/coolant

if it is NOT low, and the car is NOT running hot, the problem is in the sender unit in the surge tank, located at the bottom of the unit-it does go bad, and the only solution is to replace the surge tank (they did not design them to be removed from the tanks)-be certain it is not low, though before you do this-unplug the sender unit and install a resistor (2200 ohm from Radio Shack, about 20 cents)-between the wires from the disconnected connector-no more dash light, but now you will not have an 'idiot' light for you tank should it run low, so you will need to check it.

the plastic jug is an overflow container when the vehicle gets warm excess coolant from the radiator flows to it there is a sensor somewhere on the jug or in it for coolant level if it doesnt hold coolant it is most likely cracked as it is only plastic and should be replaced

My 1997 Pontiac grand prix FTP low coolant light wont stop flashing what's wrong

You most likely have a low coolant sensor that is defective, it is a common problem on all GM cars. The sensor is held in with a clip in the side tank of the radiator.

1998 grand prix low coolant light keeps coming on thermostat, hoses, radaitor, and intake gaskits have been replaced...the radaitor is full everytime i check it

If the engine is running well and not running hot, chances are that the coolant level sensor has failed. You can either replace it or ignore the warning light and just check the level as "routine maintenance"
while checking your oil and other fluids weekly as every good vehicle owner does and has done since there were cars to drive.

Low Coolant Light Flashing

Next to the radiator is a plastic recovery jug. On the side of the jug are low and high marks to show you how much coolant to put in. This jug will have a small hose running to the radiator.

I got a 1997 pontiac grand prix gtp coupe. the low coolant light constantly flashes. the coolant fluids are full. i just bought it and i am a little frustrated.

Sometimes the float in the low coolant sensor gets stuck.Find where the electrical connector is on the overflow tank and lightly tap on this area. This might dislodge it,if its stuck.Good Luck!!!
