Audi a4 that smells after it rains or car wash

I have a 2005 Audi A4 1.8T. After it either rains or my car is washed, it has a mold smell inside of the passanger compartment. The vehicle shows no evidence of water entering into the passanger compartment. The vehicle has not been in an accident and is in excellent shape. Cabin filter?

SOURCE: Audi A4 need to replace rear brake light on audi a4

Inside the boot is a plastic cap embeded in the boot liner. Remove the cap to reveal a screw. Undo the screw and the whole rear light cluster will come away in a sideways and not rearward direction to reveal all of the bulbs. Hope this helps.

I know it sounds funny, but check the air flow sensor. They had issues on all models with 100 and 130 bhp turbocharged diesels from audi/volkswagen.

SOURCE: 2000 Audi a4 headlight bulb replacement

At least on the driver side, there really is no reason to remove the entire headlight assembly. I was able to swap out the bulb fairly easily but simply removing the dust cap, popping the connector off the bulb, and then undo the clip holding the bulb in place. The just reverse order to install the new bulb. Took about 3 minutes.

SOURCE: 2005 Audi A4 1.8 Fuel Pump problem?

I had an Audi A4, 10 years older than yours mind you, but it would start then stop, sometimes 10 times but would eventually go. I ran a little WD40 in the key barrel and put the key in and out a couple of dozen times. Wiping it with a cloth each time, lots of dirt came off. My theory and it's only mine, is that the wear on the key left dirty metal deposits inside which stopped the chip in the key being recognised. I believe they had a security chip inside the key.
Anyway after 6 months of this nuisance it never happened again after that. Fixed my problem and a lot of frustration. Maybe help you too.

Gas Saving

Just by keeping your car exterior clean you can increase the gas mileage of your Audi up to 7 percent according to one independent engineer. Again, the less drag the better. Indeed, we do have water shortages these days so keeping your car waxed is more important than ever. In fact, waxing your car could have more benefit than just washing it for the simple fact that dirt is more repellent to a waxed car than an un-waxed one. Keep your car waxed and let the rain be your car wash.

does the check engine light come on or flash when the running issue starts? sounds like you have an ignition coil dropping out intermittenly.

My Audi has a bad smell when I turn on the air

could be an a/c leak, could be mold in the vents.....there are vent cleaning kits you can get at most auto parts stores....they consist of a spray that kills mold, however you do not want to use them if you dont know how to take the ductwork out of the dash as it may leak and destroy electrical components in the dash.

2005 audi a4, i have water in my floor board but it does not smell like coolant, what can it be

PROBABLY HEATER CORE(small like a radiator under dash which water runs through to heat car) if youre not using water in the radiator it could be the Air Con drain tube, are you using the A/C or heater that will give you the answer where the water is from

Hi have an audi a4 which has a very rough idle and if left running starts to smell, the smell is really bad if you open the drivers door the smell appears to be coming from the middle of the car also loads...

Your car is running extremely rich and the smell you are experiencing is raw fuel in the catalyst. If you keep driving this way the cat will clog and need replacing. You probably have one or more defective ignition coils, or you coil driver stage has gone bad (mounted inside the air cleaner housing)

My Audi a4 driver side passenger foot well is filling with water when stationary, can someone suggest where the water is coming in.

Sounds like the air conditioner condensation drain line has popped off the air box under the dashboard. Good luck, Techjoel

Audi A4 1998 water leakage from centre of the underside of the car

OK more information is needed on the leak.
EXACTLY where do you see it? Inside or out side? What color is it? Dose it have an smell to it?

Now on the light, What light or symbol is lit, get a photo if needed?

A leak in the center of an Audi is generally the AC condensation drain so this is why I need more information. The 2 may be not related.
