My 1997 Pontiac Sunfire has a gasoline odour through the vents the last few weeks. What could the possible cause(s) be, and what might the repair bill be?

have the fuel system checked for leaks and have the EVAP system checked for proper operation. as far as repair costs depends on what is causing your problem.

This is what happened to me. I had lost coolant (because of a crack in the radiator, the engine overheated, and cracked the head. I was going 75 down the highway and lost all compression.

My 97 sunfire starts but stops right away

First I will check the fuel pump by opening the gas door then put ignition on the on position, listen for a hissing noise. if you don't hear nothing it could that your fuel pump is no good. Next I would check relays, then I would go to the fuel pressure line to see if you got pressure. try that Could also be clogged injectors, even if you have a vacuum leak will also cause that problem. So, it can be a few things. Good luck.

Alarm goes off by itself

More then likely you have a bad door ajar switch, without a scan tool, you can not tell which one, but thats the moat likely cause, when your alarm is on and it goes off for no reason the computer is seeing the door switch change from closed to open, thinking door is open it sets alarm.

Pontiac sunfire starter issues?

Either your solenoid is sticking or your key switch is bad. Test by disconnecting the positive line to the starter (cover the connector with electrical tape to be sure it doesn't contact the chassis), then test for voltage at the S connector on the solenoid. If there is no voltage at the S connector with the key ON (not just when it is moved to START), replace the solenoid. If there is voltage at the S connector with the just the key ON, your ignition switch has failed and needs to be replaced.
