With 42 hours on my 2006 Polaris Sportsman 700 EFI, the fuel pump quit working. Replacement was $592.00. A letter to Polaris was no help. They said it was out of warranty. Subsequent investigation revealed: 1. Polaris dealerships across the country were aware of the problem as they were all replacing these fuel pumps. The problem was ethanol in gas. The original pumps were not designed for it. One dealer said they were expecting a recall or dealer notice shortly. It never happened. 2. Without telling anyone, Polaris developed and shipped replacement pumps of a new design for these ATV's and sold them at retail. When putting the original part # in the Polaris Tech. Service system, The code automatically defaults to the new part #. I can provide both numbers. There was no communication to purchasers or dealers. I feel betrayed. I should have been told to use ethanol free gas.

I have a 2006 Sportstman 500HO ATV, EFI. Sometimes it will run 100% correct, other times it will start, idle fine but then when giving it throttle will will start to surge almost like it's hitting a rev limited. Sometimes it will backfire and stall. I already replaced fuel filter, flushed the fuel lines and gave it fresh gas and installed a new spark plug, but no good. I also checked the throttle switch and it's not making contact to stall it. I download the service manaul and tested each sensor and they tested fine which is probablt why I get no check engine light.
This ATV is mainly used to plow snow in my driveway, no salt. It's used around my property but very lightly. It's still as clean as it was when I bought it and it doesn't have but about 40 hours on it.
