If you disconnected the brake switch it wouldnt be possible for your break lights to turn on. Maybe your parking brake is out of adjustment. I've seen people driving with the emergency brake on and their calipers cherry red. It's a good idea to have a helper observe your brake lights when pressing or depressing or engaging brake/emergency brake. Come to think of it when you take your foot off the brake the switch that should turn your lights off. If they dont the plunger on the switch is bad Just looking at the switch wont tell you anything unless it visibly broken A Brake switch is under $20. It wouldn't be a fuse because you said the lights are on my opinion.
Testimonial: "Thank you for Your help Andrew. Your advice got me thinking, so I checked the brake handle. There was some play on it and the plunger on the switch was not pressed in enough. Problem solved. Best Regards. Bob."
Check wire harness for short
SOURCE: replaced brakelight switch ,still no brake lights, and tailights
Check to make sure you have the correct bulb in them. Even though the parts store may have had a part number, sometimes they don't get them right. If those are correct check the relays and or the socket itself.
SOURCE: left brakelight doesn't come on
Test for power at the inoperative bulb socket with a 12V test light
SOURCE: no brake lights. Fuse good. flashers work
check power into & out of brake switch if good then start testing wire to back untill you find a spot where you lose power
SOURCE: I have a 2001 Subaru Outback wagon, LL Bean
Owners manuel chapter 11 & 12 should show you the fuse box placement and layout..there are two fuse boxes, inside behind the coin holder to the left of the steering wheel, slide out the holder..I believe #5 on the fuse box is the fuse for tail/brake lights. Also under the hood in the engine compartment on drivers side there is the main fuse box.
SOURCE: I have a 2003 gmc Sierra none of my brakelights
have you checked for a box under the hood on the drivers side, consisting of relays and fuses. i would check for a brake light relay switch, or brake light fuse, hope that this information has been helpful to you.
