Edirol R-09 Recorder Controls Frozen

This is a PARTIAL solution...

I've found that if I partially remove the SD-Card, then push the power button, it then starts and continues (without freezing) to show the meters and shows "no-card", then I push the SD-Card fully and it then shows "Loading"...

From there, it can be operated. But if I try to power-up with the SD-Card installed, it freezes and ceases to obey any buttons; which requires to remove the batteries to turn it off.

Please be aware that removing OR installing the SD-Card with power-on is NOT recommended, BUT is THE ONLY way my R-09HR now can be operated. I'm contacting the factory to solve this, but in the mean time, I had to record a live concert that I had promised to get recorded, so I tryed everithing and discovered the reinstallation of the SD-Card as the only thing that allowed me to get that concert.

The SD-Card that I bought for my R09HR is a Kingston 16GB. good luck, give it a try.
Sincerely, amclaussen at [email protected]

R-09 broken, don't know where I can repair one fast in UK

Hi Igor,

You have probably long since either had your Edirol repaired or found a replacement. If the latter situation is the case, and you have your R-09 sitting around collecting dust, I might be able to help. The buttons likely did not fall off, but were pushed back into the unit. Try opening it up by unscrewing it from the bottom (First open the battery cap) and carefully opening it up. You'll lkely find the buttons pushed back into it.

I learned this after a friend dropped mine at my wedding. Determined, I set out to fix it.

Good luck to you or anyone else reading this post,

The external mike plus on

What kind of jack does your external mic has? A stereo jack or a mono? Here is a stereo jack:technical114_67.jpg
and here is a mono one:
technical114_68.jpg
Note that according to the original specifications your recorder has a stereo jack for mic input, so in case you want to rec with one mic at both channel you have to make a modification at the mic's cable or use the proper adapter. Post me back what mic and with what kind of jack do you use in order to suggest you the best solution.

In case of a problem or clarification or further details needed, don't hesitate to post me a reply before rejecting my answer.
If you are satisfied, accept my solution.

Thanks and regards

How do I get rid of the shhhhh noise when I record

You need a low pass filter over the microphone, use a piece of high density, well in fact experiment with all types of densities of "Foam" and place it in front of the Mic Hole and this will work well, Sometimes wool or fur, or anything that will absorb all the low frequency signals without reducing quality will work, thats why you see those "Socks" on the microphones in the movies. Another way, is to get a VOX switch, this start recording at the sound of your voice, and although fast will usually cut off the first syllable or so, or the first few Msecs of time when it starts this can be used to advantage in this case.
Conversely, some VOX's that are built in, can cause a noise at beginning of recording.. Sometimes the noise is the Motor noise, and it's picked up as a low frequency noise, this can happen in cheaper units, an earth a bit loose, bad connections, to name a few.

SD card full in spite of all files deleted - what do do?

OK, so if you want to delete the photos off your s.d. card, Simply open the 'terminal' application located in the utilities folder.
Then enter this into the box:

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
killall Finder

That will then make the .Trashes folder of the sd card show up!
Open it, go through the '501' folder, and there you go! Delete everything!

This happens because the card has it's own hidden trash.

Oh, and if you want to hide all the hidden files and folders again, simply open terminal, and enter THIS text:

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE
killall Finder

Cheers,

Tristan
