Hi.
Even if a defective CPU may decide to overheat by itself the case would be quite unusual. The problem is usually caused by a defective fan or by a fan incorrectly installed. Be sure that the fan is starting and replace the fan.
As a first step try once again reinstalling the fan. This time measure the temperature using a software like SpeedFan.
If there is no change in temperature reading, try replacing the fan. A fan with damaged bearing may provide insufficient cooling resulting in overheating.
PS: be sure that problem is temperature and not system crashing. The temperature monitoring software will tell you.

Thanks for the reply. I already have a S/W to monitor the MB parameters. I have tried replacing the fan with no results. The constant MB temp. is 42c and MB is 44c. Only when a program is run the processor temp. shoots up in no time beyond the thrush hold limits. I have also installed an extra cabinet fan and is of no help. Any further solutions.
thank you.
