It's best to back up your iPod weekly. You may be best going for the complete restore. Any Apps you have already purchased are recognised by Apple so you will not have to purchase the Apps again. This may be the only way. Good Luck :-)
I have had this problem recently myself and would like you to know that
it is possible to fix. The white screen error or otherwise known as
"white screen of death" is caused by the lcd color screen on the ipod
itself. That is why its functions still work but the screen does not.
Once you replace the color screen it will be as good as new.
Try the Five R's suggested by your user's manual - you can get the manual from Apple's website if you have lost it: Reset, Retry, Restart, Reinstall, Restore Remember these five basic suggestions if you have a problem
with your iPod nano. If one of the following doesn’t help, read on for solutions to
specific problems. â Reset your iPod nano.
See “General Suggestions,” below. â Retry with a
different USB port if you cannot see iPod nano in iTunes. â Restart your computer
and make sure you have the latest software updates installed. â Reinstall iPod and iTunes
software from the latest versions on the web. â Restore your iPod nano.
See “Updating and Restoring iPod Software” on page whatever.

itself. That is why its functions still work but the screen does not.
