Problem with Minolta Vectis weathermatic Zoom camera

I had recently loaded a new roll of film and had taken several pictures, with no indication of there being a problem. When I tried to take another picture, I got no response. When I looked at the small digital screen on top I saw the number "5" and a small image of the casing of the film used in camera (end view). My first thought was that somehow I had mistakenly taken a number of pictures but I'm not so sure.Thinking the problem might be the battery, I replaced it but this didn't make any difference. The screen still shows the casing image and the number 5. When the camera is turned off the symbols show constantly. When the camera is turned on, the film canister image blinks but the number 5 does not.

I tried to see if I could locate the user's manual on the web, hoping there might be info about whether the number 5 was a message indicating the nature of the problem. HOwever, I couldn't locate the manual.

Assistance, suggestions, advice would be appreciated.

Hamp

wgokey1,
yes it should auto rewind. if it's new take it back to where you bought it. if not new, get an estimate cost before repaired.

i would imagine they share similar user interface.

My Minolta Freedom Zoom 70C camera will not take pictures.

Try cleaning the contacts in the camera and clean the film canister. You can also try putting self adhive tape on the DX Area of the film cassette and set the film speed ASA manually.

What is the DX code on a film roll?
The DX code is the silver and black pattern on almost every film cartridge. Inside most electronic film cameras, there is a series of metal pins that read the code and tell your camera what your film speed is.

I got Divorced 1 yr ago today YEAH !!!!!! I'm now slowley going through all of the things that my Ex left in my house when he ran off to be with his future ex-wife #9 (14 yrs of marraige & not a single...

just take another photo, if it reads 9 then the film is advancing. if it reads 7 then it's going to the cassette. no problem either way.
if the film is advancing, it will either rewind auto or there will be a rewind button or switch with a double arrow.
if the film is going to the cassette it will rewind auto.

If the battery is low in my Minolta freedom zoom camera, will the film be pulled back into the roll?

No. If the camera pulled the film back into the roll with a low battery, you wouldn't be able to take any pictures, rendering the film, useless. Don't worry about it, and if it REALLY bugs you, keep fresh batteries in it.

My minolta sightseen camera wont take pictures?

The blinking zero would indicate that the film has not loaded but the cartridge is in place. The camera won't do anything when this occurs. Try opening the film door and load the roll again
