LG Dishwasher (LDS5811) - low water level

My 1.5 year old LDS5811 LG dishwasher started a grinding noise which sounded like a lack water. At first it ran with this noise. After several weeks it stopped after about 30 seconds after making this noise and then stopped displaying the error code E1. I started putting in 3 small buckets of water during each water re-fill cycle and it worked. Any help on what part needs replaced? thanks!

I have the exact same problem and it does give error code E1 not 1E (low water).

Mine is making the same noise..but NO error code. I tried adding 2 qt water after reading this post and the noise stopped. Does that mean it may be the same thing?

The problem was that the float on the side of the dishwasher had black gunk and was sticking open causing the dishwasher to keep pumping out the water. I removed and cleaned and it worked for about 6 months. Now I'm having the reverse problem...the float is sticking close causing the dishwasher to over fill and leak out the door. I'm going to replace the float system and hope that solves the problem.

LG LDS5811 top rack not cleaning

I Have the same issue, it sounds like the arms try and start up 4 times then each time power back down, the top arm is not spinning at all. On the fifth time a I hear grinding and then the mid and lower arms spin, soap streaks down the door, nothing stuck in any of the arms, 16 months old, 750.00 out of pocket for junk!

Load grinding noise, like the engine is working too hard.

Most likely the motor/pump assembly is worn out and grinding. If the machine is less than five years old it is under warranty. If over five years old, the repair part alone is about $150 not including labor.

LGDishwasher makes grinding noise several times during cycle

Please confirm that you have an LG LDS 5811 dishwasher? Approximately how many years old is the dishwasher?
First things first: regarding the 'crud' Run at least one cycle, with no detergent powder added - and when you go put in the extra water, add up to two cups of vinegar plus more water and let it run until it errors. This will not fix the major problem, but staring with a clean sump area (and keeping it clean) is a good start. FYI: Stop using all gels and tablets, switch to a brand name detergent powder-like Electrosol or Cascade. Always use high quality powder in all dishwashers, especially energy and water conserving DWs like the modern LG models.
Next, given that you are getting an E! code, triple check that you do not have a leak, especially directly under the dishwasher. If not, start at the end of the DW drain hose (does it connect to a sink disposal?) follow it back to the DW. That hose must rise to at least the height of the bottom of the counter top or be connected to an Air Gap valve. If the hose does not have that rise in it, your problem is caused by natural siphoning out of the dishwasher into the drain. Either add an air gap (even if you don;t have a sink disposal) or suspend the hose high from the bottom of the counter.
Regarding the filter (mesh screens) in the sump area, while it may be melted, I doubt that melting was caused by the dishwasher itself, because the heating element is well below the filter.
Pull the lower spray arm up and out. Remove the nine phillips screws that hold the filter down and then pull the filter. Wash out the "self cleaning" filter housing.
The LG replacement part for the upper housing with the mesh screen panels is: FILTER ASSEMBLY, MESH 5231DD1001A I also recommend you replace the filter seal: SEAL 4036DD3001A
Then inspect under the filter in the sump area for any debris. Remove it but watch out for broken glass! Use a flashlight and look real close for anything foreign.
Inspect the Impeller, look for damage and confirm that it spins easily but is securely attached.
Reassemble and test out.
Good Luck!

Dishwasher will not go into wash cycle.

On the LG LDF6810 dishwasher, the best you can do is remove the bottom spray arm and then the 10 phillips screws that hold the filter down.
Pull the filter out and clean it as best you can.
Inspect the sump area beneath where the filter was. Be careful of broken glass and remove all debris. Use a flashlight and look into every little spot down there. Reassemble the dishwasher and operate your DW.
If you still have problems, I recommend a service call. Check your manual to confirm but most LG dishwashers have a 1 year parts & labor plus a 2 year parts only. Have your proof of purchase ready.

Whirlpool dishwasher low water presure upper level

Since you have low pressure
  • Check the float switch inside the tub, it should move freely up and down.

  • Check the harness to the motor

  • Check start capacitor on the left side of the wash motor

LG Dishwasher making grinding noise then blinking E1 code 10 minutes later

Well done by resolving this problem. The other way to avoid the siphoning problem through the drain hose is adding an air gap valve/connector (available at any hardware store). You can use it even if you don't have a garbage disposal in your kitchen sink. That will assure that you have the proper height of the drain hose.
Hope this helps!
