Toro Model 20041 sputters and stalls out; If I cover the primer bulb the engine will rev up and run. Also the mower won't start unless I clean the spark plug. What do I need to do?

It seems to be an obstruction in your fuel delivery system. Get a can of ether and a spray a short burst of it into the breather area near the carburetor, if the mower starts up and then stalls out, then you may need to get your carburetor serviced.

Sounds like you missed something in the carb (dirt) remove it and dissasemble it again and take a bread tie and peel the coating off it so there is just wire and run it through the holes in carb and dont forget the bolt that holds float bowl on....usually there are holes in that too and one is tiny wher you can hardly see it in the threads clean that one out too..wire wil fit that one too and if there is a plastic screw ontop of carb remove that and some times there is a plastic jet pushed into top of carb remove and clean it.

Hold the butterfly valve (behind air filter) open with a screwdriver, while somebody else tries to start it. Toro has had problems with atuomatic chokes. If it fires right up, thats the problem! If so, just wire it open, or contact Toro for a repair kit. Try using starting fluid, not carb cleaner, and spray directly into the head through the spark plug port. If you didn't do it already, blow out all the ports in the carb with compressed air, or carb cleaner. Also, be sure the safety lever is engaging correctly (top bar on handle) at the engine. Lawn mowers are pretty simple, so the problem is most likely simple too.

I believe that Toro Guarantees to start 1 Pull, was gas left in it all winter?, If so this is'nt covered under warranty, cause gas is to be ran out or dumped out at end of season this will prevent any gumming up of carb . did you completely disassemble carb? does it have a primer on it, those gskts need replacing, clean out the jet in bottum of float bowl,small holes,sometimes missed and remove and check your needle/seat to make sure that when float drops gas runs out then lift float up and gas should stop. hope this helped you,another thing spray carb cleaner in carb and pull over and see if it will start that way enough to keep running with choke to see if it will **** gas into it

There is dirt in the nozzel inside the carb,take it apart and clean it with torch tip cleaners. Remember to replace all the gaskets you disturb.

is the air cleaner pluged?

the bulb is allowing air in some where. Replace it.

You will need to clean out the jet on the bottom of the carburetor. The fuel is not being sucked in to engine. Check the needle and seat to make sure fuel is flowing in to the carburetor.

cleaning the carb might work soak it in gas foe a lil wile and it may fix the problem
