Hi! My friend has got a Jaguar xj6 1997 with a 3.2Litre engine and automatic transmission. It doesnt start. Went to work, worked just fine. Dead later on the same day. Battery ok. Tried jerking the gear stick...Nothing. Checked the Inertia switch...ok. Checked for power at fuse to fuel pump relay and main ecu fuse...ok. Did a "hot wireing" to the starter by the white cable on the back of the valve cover....ok,did crank the engine,so solenoid and starter is ok.. Tried the "unlock-with-key-and-lock-with-key-hold-until-larm-activates-and-then-unlock-and-start-trick"....didnt work. Tried both keys. Heard about some wrong with starter connection problems? Grounding or positive connection? Any suggestions? Thanks! Anders

I assume your car is@1997 a model/year x300 a common cause of the symptom you have is a corroded/open circuit wiring at a connector or around under the washer bottle filler white connector i think its the ok to start signal from the security/locking module located below trunk fuse box the module can also go faulty. one easy test is to switch ign on if the check engine light goes off with other warning lights. start there fault finding with the wiring etc

The engine went dead when I slow down to turn on neutral gear. what is the possible cause?

Neutral gear? Standard transmission or Automatic? If automatic
car may be smart enough to shut down. If Standard transmission
you may have a clutch safety start switch wire loose or bad switch.

My battery went dead, so i recharge it and the car starts, now my throttle doesnt work what happend?

Sounds like when the battery went dead, there was still a little power left in it, and when starting was attempted, it went completely dead. This causes the computer to automatically shut down to prevent damage to it. Starting it afterwards may require allowing it to run until it reaches operating temp (when temp gauge is in center), and then restarting one or two times. If this doesn't work, you will need a scan tool to reset pcm.

Battery went dead, charged battery and still wont turn over

i had a 95 xj 6 with the same problem. At the fire wall on the right side is a bolt with a rubber cover on it. this cable goes behind the engine to the starter. That bolt at the fire wall my need to be replaced. find it it may be rusted or corroded. If it is, the current from the battery will stop at that bolt and not contunue on to the starter but lights and everything else will work. If when you turn the key you just hear a click or nothing. that part is 5 dollars at autozone.

Problem with 2005 Jaguar XJ8L

Hi Tracy.
Yes its a new one to me too !
I presume its an automatic model ?
Possibly the gear selection inhibitor switch is at fault, due to water ingress ?
Have you tried starting in neutral ?
Do you hear any clicking from the engine starter at all, when you turn the key ?
If you do, then suspect the starter motor at fault.
I see you posted this on Dec the 6th, so expect you have located the problem by now, if not hope I have been of some help.
Best Wishes !
John.
