Well, I have the same problem too, but finally I can fix this problem.
It's just very simple.
Can you see the OFFICE button, right on top of the F8 button and also on top of numlock green light (who is turned on if the numlock or caps lock active) ? Just press that button, then press the numlock button. Gotcha! The numlock light is turned on, right? Try to type some number on notepad with right side of your keyboard now.
Is this information helpful? Thanks before

My numbers keypad is not working

Step 1:
Laptop or Desktop ?
ENABLE NUMLOCK KEYS USING REGITRY Check the LED light that indicates whether or not the Number Lock is enabled. If the light is on, press the "Num Lock" key on your keyboard. Look for the light to turn off, signaling that the Number Lock has been disabled. Change your Number Lock status at start up (Number Lock is disabled on start-up by default). Click "Start," then "Run" and type "regedit" to pull up the Windows Registry. Open the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\" folder, then subsequently open the "Control Panel\" and "Keyboard\" folders. Double-click on "InitialKeyboardIndicators" and change its Data Value to "1," to disable Number Lock on start-up. A value of "2" would turn the Number Lock on after you log in, while a "0" value would result in it turning off after you log in.

CHANGE THE DEFAULT NUMLOCK KEY b> Go to the Start menu. From the Start menu choose "Run." Type in "regedit." Hit "OK" to open the regedit application. This allows you to change your computer's default settings. Navigate to the keyboard's default settings. Using the navigation bar at the left, choose "HKey_Users" then "Default" then "Control Panel" and finally "Keyboard." Look at the right side of the window. On the right are the various default options you can change for your keyboard. Double click on "InitialKeyboardIndicators" to change the NumLock default. A window will pop up. Change the NumLock default by entering a 0 or 2 in the "Value Data" field. Enter a 0 to have the NumLock set to off by default. To set the NumLock to on by default, enter 2. Hit the "OK" button to save your changes. Restart you computer. Your NumLock default changes will not take effect until your computer has been restarted.

When i type on my sony viao keyboard it shows numbers not words and is not random

Does this only happen with the keys on the right side of the keyboard? Check to insure that the NumLock key is not on. There should be a key on the keyboard, usually on the upper right that will say something like NumLk or NumLock, press this key and see if things go back to normal.

My computer keyboard is typing numbers instead of letters.. any suggestions on how to fix it

This is because most notebook keyboards have a number pad incorporated into the right-hand side of the keyboard. Numbers are being typed because the NumLock is active.
To disable this function press the NumLock key (might be marked NumLock or have a symbol that looks like a calculator on it) on the keyboard (you might need to press the Fn function key and the NumLock simultaneously).

I have an EVEREX laptop and the number lock is on i cant turn it off is there any way i can turn it off?

Try rebooting - that should shut it off - if you're looking for another solution, try this..

  1. Begin by first clicking on the Start Button.
  2. Then click on the Run Icon, which will open up the Run Menu for you.
  3. Type the word: Notepad into the white area and then click on OK.
  4. This will open up the Window’s Notepad Utility.
  5. Then click on the word File, which is contained in your top tool bar area.
  6. This will pull down a menu for you to now click on Open.
  7. In the File name: area at the bottom of the screen type in: C:\CONFIG.SYS
  8. Then click on the Open button on the right side of the screen.
  9. Now add a line that reads: NUMLOCK=OFF into your CONFIG.SYS file.
  10. Then save your changes by clicking on the word File again in your top tool bar area.
  11. This will pull down a menu for you to now click on Save.
  12. Then exit Notepad and reboot your computer for the changes to take effect.
  13. Note: The line: NUMLOCK=ON can be substituted if you want your Numlock always on.
..good luck!! Hope this helps!

When I type letters, some of them turn to numbers

Numlock is turned on, press the FN button on lower left and look for the numlock key, you should see numbers 1-9 on the keys that you have been pressing, those buttons have numbers and the letters, just turn the numlock off, and they will be letters again.

Typing problems

I have a cat that has probably written the Great American Novel by now, so I sympathize. Please check to see that the numlock key is not depressed or the shift/function key combination will not solve your problem.
