Your registery file is deleted you will have to reinstall the game.Copy your saved games to a folder.First uninstall and then then install the game again. And copy the saved games to the directory from where you copied the saved games.

You have to have the disc in your cd/dvd drive to play the game. the game will not play without the disc. If you have any expansion packs installed you need to use the latest expansion disc. For instance, I have Free Time but not Apartment Life so I must have the Free Time disc in the drive to play the Sims 2, not the Sims 2 disc.
There's always, do a complete reinstall. Some software will ask for uninstall-install-repair.Hit repair if available. You have the disk, the reinstall is probably your only option.
I think university is the first or second expansion pack. I know there are issues if the expansions are not installed in order of their release. if you have say, seasons or freetime and then install university, it may not run correctly. You have to uninstall the packs or the game and re-install them in correct order. Yes, it's a big pain but I had to do it twice.
Install the SIMS2, or double deluxe whatever you have then follow this order with exception of say nightlife if you have have double deluxe because it comes with the original game.
The Sims 2" Expansion Pack Order
"The Sims 2 University"
"The Sims 2 Nightlife" included in double deluxe
"The Sims 2 Holiday Party Pack" (A Stuff Pack)
"The Sims 2 Open for Business"
"The Sims 2 Family Fun" (A Stuff Pack)
"The Sims 2 Glamour Life" (A Stuff Pack)
"The Sims 2 Pets"
"The Sims 2 Happy Holiday" (A Stuff Pack)
"The Sims 2 Seasons"
"The Sims 2 Celebration" (A Stuff Pack) also in double deluxe
"The Sims 2 H&M" (A Stuff Pack)
"The Sims 2 Bon Voyage"
"The Sims 2 Teen Style" (A Stuff Pack)
"The Sims 2 Free Time"
"The Sims 2 Kitchen and Bath Interior Design" (A Stuff Pack)
Does your laptop have a DVD drive? It is likely that the Sims Double Deluxe disk you have is a DVD ROM and not a CD ROM.
If this is not the case, try clicking My Computer and selecting the CD drive to see if the computer recognises the disk at all. Run setup.exe if it does.
i have exactly the same problem - although is there another way to solve it because backing up my sims 2 files takes hours lol
I have the same problem, but that is not all, because when I try to reinstal it it says that there is an error 48 and I can notreinstal the game.
