I have entered my product key (found printed clearly on a sticker under my laptop) and every time the response is that the entry is "incorrect". I have checked so often with the factory-written code that I am fed up with it, but still can't make effective use of my expensive unit. And please don't insult me by telling me that my entry is "incorrect" when I know -- and others I have demonstrated the problem to -- all agree that my entry is exactly what is printed underneath. Product keys on the hardward itself indicates an OEM license and will only work with the original OEM installation disk (not with Microsoft upgrade or full retail product CD's). When using a recovery disk that came with the computer, there will be no need to enter this information as it is hard coded into the CD (or hard disk utility partition). If you have lost the original installation/recovery disk(s), you might be able to purchase one from the manufacturer for a nominal fee.

Testimonial: "The exlanation looks well, but it means now that I have to track down a new installation disk or disks before I can make even everyday use of my compu"

What manufacturer and model of computer is it? It is possible that the recovery is on a utility partition within the computer itself.
