SOURCE: NAD C541i CD Player won't turn on
I recently bought a second hand C541i as is and I had the same thing; no power up. I took it to a service centre, they re-soldered the connecting pins for the transformer socket. It now works well.
After that I realised that it could have been the problem with the Burson Audio clock that was installed buy the previous owner but had intermittent playback problems. A study of the schematic revealed that the +12v rail for the clock, is from a different secondary coil winding than the +5v for the DAC etc. And the -12v for the analogue output stage could be from a different pin on the connector as well.
