Cannot connect rifle controller to my Xbox 360. It a special edition unit so I dont know if that makes a difference. Instruction say press connect on the console itself but my xbox is completely wireless and no connect button on console

Connect a wired Xbox controller
Plug the Xbox 360 Wired Controller into a USB port on the Xbox 360 console. There are two USB ports on the front of the console. To disconnect the controller, pull on the connector, not the cable.
The cable on the Xbox 360 Wired Controller has an inline release. The inline release on the controller cable is a safety feature designed to reduce the chance of the Xbox 360 console falling if the cable is pulled.
Wireless controller troubleshooting

If your wireless controller does not turn on or loses power, try the following solutions:
Solution 1: Replace the batteries
Insert a new set of AA alkaline batteries into the Xbox 360 Wireless Controller, and then try to turn it on.
Solution 2: Try a different battery pack
If you have another Xbox 360 Wireless Controller, take the battery pack off that controller and attach it to your controller. Then try to turn your controller on.
If your controller works with the different battery pack, your original battery pack might be defective. If your controller is under warranty, you can order a replacement battery pack from Xbox Support . See the Assistance section at the bottom of this page for more information.
If your controller is out of warranty, you can buy a new battery pack from a retail store.
Solution 3: Try a rechargeable battery packIf you or a friend has an Xbox 360 Rechargeable Battery Pack, attach that battery pack to your controller and try to use your controller. If your controller works with the rechargeable battery pack attached, you can buy a new battery pack from a retail store or order a replacement battery pack from Xbox Support. See the Assistance section at the bottom of this page for more information.

Here are the things you can do to solve the problem.
1. On the front of the controller and the system there is a little button you can press that can connect to each other for you to play.
2. Make sure that the batteries are properly placed inside the battery pack under the controller.
3. Make sure the batteries are not dead.
I know this is not much but I hope this information helps you.

Have you tried pressing the sync switches on both devices, its the little white button on the top of the controller and the one on the 360 is near the memory card b slot (round white one) press the one on the controller and the lights shoudl start flashing then press the one on the 360 while the lights are still flashing they should then flash on one light about 3 times to indicate success. if this doesnt work you may have a faulty RF(radio frequency) unit, this is the wireless device which communicates with the controllers, if this is the case you can get this replaced at your local pc shop for around £20 to £30.

• The controller is connected to only one Xbox console at a time. • The controller works within 33 feet (10 meters) of your Xbox 360 console. However, objects between the controller and the console may reduce this range.

personally never buy a refurbished xbox,unless u want to be swaping parts in and out all the time, people dont usually return xboxs, simply becasue of the multimedia se unless it has gone bad, so spend that extra money and you should be set there is the xbox elite, in black and xbox pro in plain white but there is different versions like 60 gb 8 gb or 40 gb harddrives. there is also special edition xboxs but gamestop might not carry them

For pairing the Xbox 360 controller make sure you hit the pairing button on the wireless controller and Xbox 360 unit together, there's a little circular button under the memory card 2 slot, press it (while xbox is on)
now press the one on the controller (next to lb) and it should connect.

There could be a problem with the Controller or the RF unit on the xbox 360 console. Try another controller to make sure its not the RF receiver inside the Xbox 360. Usually when you press the Sync button on either the Xbox or the controller the lights on the X circle should spin and then flash on number 1 and stay a steady green on both the console and the controller

The headsets that come with the xbox 360 tend to break somewhere inside of the controller connection point.

Try moving the wire around ( by the controller ) while talking and see if it works when you hit a certain position.

If it does start to work, you can try fixing it -or invest in a headset from a different company.
