Remove the hose and lay it straight. Then using a broom or mop handle, push it into the hose and collapse the hose on the handle as far as you can. (Think crinkling your socks to pull them over your feet). You'll be doing much the same as you pull the hose up onto the handle. If you have no resistance from one end, then do the same things from the other end. Then replace the hose onto the vac and turn on the power. Your pushing with the broom/mop handle should dislodge whatever is caught and the suction from the vac should pull it through the rest of the way. I hope this helps. If so, please rate my solution. You should find your user manual, look up the phone number for Shop Vac's customer service and call them. They will be very helpful and with the unit being no older than that, it should still be in warranty. They will probably have you send it back and will possibly just send you a whole new unit.

On the back of the shop vac there's a hole...what is supposed to go in there...i turn it on and dust blows out of it like crazy

should have a exhaust filter in the hole. it is round and 5-6 inches long with a type of filter on the end.
