get the codes first.

When was last time trans fluid and filter were changed? It should be done every 30k or 3 years. I'd start there.

Stop at a auto parts store like discount or auto zone and have them pull the codes for you.

Your electric fan is probibly not running.Fan switch,fan relay or the fan could be bad.If it is getting hot and you pop the hood you should hear the fan running.

It usually helps when asking a engine question to tell what engine you have, 2.5l and 3.0l have belts, 3.3l has a chain.

Internal combustion engines requires 3 things... fuel, air, and spark. You do not have enough of one or more of these. If the wires and plugs are old, change them.  Air filter, same thing.  Fuel filter can also clog up with stuff after awhile. When you take a look at the air filter check where the air comes from.  It is possible a little critter has built a home and blocked the air flow (rare, but, it has happened).

2 things I would inspect, your motor mounts, and CV joints. If worn, one or both could cause what your experiencing. See if you can figure out where grinding is coming from, right or left side & check drive shaft CV joint on that side especially. Look close at both boots on them for rips or holes, where dirt has been entering.
P.S. a sloppy/worn CV joint can end up causing irregular wear on transmission as well, so don't let it go too long, if at all.
