Can altenator sound like bad power steering pump?

Many new power steering pumps will exhibit a whining noise for a time after installation. Some won't. Typically, they quiet down within 2-3 weeks once they break in a bit. If the new pump is doing its job and not leaking and the whine is not more like an ear-splitting shriek, just wait it out and see what happens.

The power steering pump is shooting fluid put of the top .

Start by checking your fluid level. Is the level between the cold/low line and the hot/high line on the dipstick?

If the level is ok, do you currently have power assisted steering? If not, or the pump whines, you may have a blockage in the power steering pump/and/or lines, and should go to the mechanic to fix.

Lastly, if both those above are not the problem, it could be simply that the power steering cap/dipstick doen not seal properly to the power steering housing. There is a rubber or plastic seal under the cap to prevent fluid from escaping. If it is damaged/split/chipped ... you will need a new cap/dipstick.

Did that solve your problem?

My power steering went out after changing the water pump on my 2002 jeep liberty

Did you notice is the fl is coming from the Hose or the Pump itself ??

if its from the hose you will need to change the hose.

its from the pump you have 1 of 2 options.

Replace it or repair it.

Replacing it is easier however it can be more costly..

To repair it you will need to get a Seal and rubber kit for your Pump. Once you have the kit remove the pump, Take pictures and notes as you take the pump apart. Replace and all the seals and rubbers as you reassemble the pump.

If you dont have much experience I would suggest you take the car into a shop and have them do it for you. t can be a lot cheaper than ding t yourself in some cases. Plus you will be certain it will be done propperly.

Power steering is whining. Cleaned reservoir and refilled. Still whining. What do I do next?

I had a grinding noise on my 1997 Cadillac Deville Limousine and I tried some 'Bar's Leak' Power Steering Fluid that claims to quiet down noisy comopressors, and to thicken and lubricate. So, I tried it 2 days ago, and ran it 100 mi. like it said, and there WAS an improvement in the worn out Power Steering Pump. The cost was like $11 for the product at Walmart, including getting a Turkey Baster to remove the old fluid in the reservoir, that would overflow if I added the whole bottle. I used 1/2 of a bottle and it did seem to improve the sound of the belt driven pump which I gather has worn out splines and bearing inside after 126,000 mi. or so. It certainly was cheaper than spending $500 for a new pump to be installed including evacuating the a/c which I was told was necessary on my particular vehicle.
Hm. $11 last chance try vs. $500. So, I tried the $11 fix and so far it is so much better, that I don't plan to have the power steering pump replaced.

is the fluid full? if so the reservoir may have a filter/screen in the bottom, you may need to replace the reservoir.

2002 ford Taurus power streeing

You shouldn't need to replace 2 pumps,or even one. It shouldn't whine, where you hear it, driving.
I would change the steering rack, flush the cooler and pump. Still got a whine ,your getting bad rebuilt pumps

2002 kia optima,,, whining noise that stops when turning left

power steering pump probably went out.. if you can easily get at the belt and are any kind of mechanically inclined, remove the drive belt to the p/s pump and then start the car if the noise is gone then its probably part of the power steering pump

03 Windstar makes a whining noise when idling and turning. Sounds like it is coming from steering column. Power steering fluid level is good.

When you checked the power steering fluid level were there any indications of excessive foaming? There are three things that would cause a whining noise from the power steering. 1- low fluid (you checked that so that is not the culprit), 2- loose steering drive belt (you should not be able to press down on the belt more that about one inch between the steering pump pulley and the crankshaft pulley), 3- power steering pump bearing worn out.
