How to date/time stamp photos?

The date and time are stored with the picture as metadata, but the D90 won't mar your photos by scrawling a string of numbers on it. Any good photo editing program will let you print the date and time on the picture, in the margin, or on the back, depending on your printer.

Camera records the date and time each picture is taken, storing this information somewhere in the JPG file, so you can stamp photos after uploading them on a PC. You can use Time To Photo software. It can stamp photos automatically in a batch.

The date and time (and a lot more) are stored with every picture in its EXIF metadata. Any photo viewing/editing program should be able to display this data. To print this data, please consult the documentation for whatever program you're using to print your pictures. Depending on the program and printer you may print the date on the image, in the margins, or on the back.

If you want a date stamp on photos go to Menu and turn on Date stamp after setting proper date under time and date setting under Menu. Rich

The D40x won't deface your pictures by scrawling a string of digits across them. However, the date and time (and a lot more) are saved with each picture in what's called the EXIF data. You can see this data in just about any photo viewing/cataloging program, such as Nikon ViewNX2.
Any photo printing program should be able to print some of this data, either on the image itself, in the margins, or on the back, depending on the printer. If you're printing directly from the camera, look at the instructions in the "Printing Photographs" section of the manual (page 57 in my copy), particularly the paragraph bulleted "Time stamp."

The camera will not deface your photos by scrawling a string of numbers across them. However, the data is stored with the image. Any photo viewing program should be able to show you this information. Depending on the program and printer, you can choose to have the date printed on the image, in the margins, or on the back.

If you simply want to see the date and time on the screen, press up/down while reviewing your pictures until you get the view you want.

If you want the date and time printed on the pictures, that needs to be done in whatever program you use to print. For example, Nikon ViewNX has a "Print Photo Information" check box in its Print dialog.

The camera is not going to damage your pictures by imprinting date and time on any portion of the image. It will record that information (and a lot more), but its priority is on getting the image data.

The D40x will not timestamp the image itself.
The date and time are contained in the JPG metadata, which you can access when you look at the picture, or can imprint when getting the pictures processed.

Select play back menu and select print time stamp.

All photographs taken with this camera having a data file with it, called meta data. All these file in formation can be viewed in clicking file info in photoshop.
The Metadata tags defined in the Exif standard cover a broad spectrum:

• Digital cameras will record the current date and time in hour, minute,seconds and save this in the metadata.
• Camera settings like such as the camera model and make , and information that varies with each image such as orientation, aperture , shutter speed, focal length, metering mode, flash mode and ISO speed information.
• A thumbnail for previewing the picture on the camera's LCD screen, in file managers, or in photo manipulation software.
• Descriptions and copyright information.
