Make sure the jumper on the back of the new drive is set the same as the old one. EXAMPLE: Slave, Master, Cable Select

Doses Windows detect the new drive? Go into Control Panel and see if it is listed in there.

Here's a link to the Sony Support site for the drive. You can try updating the firmware. You can get it on the right side of the page along with the installation instructions.

I need to know if my DVD Drive can burn dual layer Discs. The Discs are DVD+R DL and my dvd drive is an Optiarc DVD RW AD-7200A ATA. Thanks

Hi anternidrumm,

According to the site below, the drive can burn dual layers discs:

"The 20x DVD multi writer opens up new dimensions for flexible read and write functions. This high-performance DVD/CD-burner is able to read your DVDs at a speed of 16x and CDs at 48x. It also brings fascinating dynamics into play when writing your blank disks. Now it can even write DVD-R DL two layer media at 12x, while reaching a speed of up to 20x for DVD+R and DVD-R. DVD+R9 and DVD+RWs are processed at 8x and DVD-RWs at 6x. And DVD-RAM can be recorded with up to 12x DVD speed. So how fast can it burn my CDs, you might ask? Even here, with speeds of 48x (CD-R) and 32x (CD-RW), it’s at the top of its class."

I just formated my pc.... and then my sony optiarc dvd rw ad- 7200a just couldn't be reconigzed by the system (windows xp sp2, it appears a message saying: "(d:) doesn't match with win32".......... what do...

Try setting the jumper at the back of the drive. if that does not work, then I think the windows is not compatible with the drive or maybe some files were not installed while you were doing the installation. So you have to start the installation all over again.

Best wishes.

Cd rom recognised as cd audio

They will definately need drivers to be able to give out 100% of the performance.
You definately might have receive a disk while purchased the CD/DVD ROM.
Try that driver once and see the difference.
