Saw has both 35084 and 35085 model numbers on saw - looking for replacement bar and chain, contacted sears and they said there is no substitute. Heard that this is made by MTD, looks like I'll have to go off brand for the part

'Oregon' makes very good bars and chains for nearly every saw made. Check their web site for information. Good luck!

Sears 18 42cc chain saw blade keeps coming lose

I have found that the number one reason for a loose chain is from stretching, and that comes from heat or clearing small brush.

Heat being that it is not oiling properly and wears quicker, and the small brush answer (cutting lots of 1/2 in Buckthorn) tends to jerk the chain and manually stretches rather than a steady cut in a log which tends to be smoother.

With that said, yours might be something else. If I can ask a few question... When the saw was purchased, did you install the bar and chain? Second your level of experience - and is this your first saw. What I need to rule out is that the bar could be on wrong.

This saw was more than likely built by Poulan and it should have 2 nuts holding the bar. Does the bar loosen up? If the answer is no you might have a bar that is miss matched to the chain. What that means is that the chains "drivers", the tooth that is down in the bar could be a .050 and the bar could be a .063, hence the chain wobbles more that it should and might be more prone to jumping off.

Solution: Replace bar and chain and make sure they are a matched, lastly, always cut with a sharp chain.

Good luck,

kj

Describe your sears 18"

I put a new bar and chain on my craftsman 18" chainsaw because the chain keeps coming loose. I am still having the same problem, after running 10 seconds, the chain falls off.

Sears craftsman 3.3 cubic inch motor, model # 358356331 chainsaw, what is correct bar length and what is the chain modle and size

According to www.searspartsdirect.com , this saw came with a 20" bar and a .325" pitch, .050" guage, 78 drive links chain.
On sears' website, plug in your model number, go to the handle section and your bar and chain are #130 and #131.
These items are also available aftermarket.
Oregon calls this a #33 or #20 chain, with 78 drive links.
Oregon offers a bar/chain combo part #106874

It is a good idea to inspect the drive teeth on the sprocket of the saw. If they are worn, this is the perfect time to replace the sprocket.

Good luck!

It should, I have been on this earth to long for a definate answer. Both saws have 40 drive links, are 3/8s, and a gauge of 0.050. Please verify my findings here:

Have you contacted a local saw shop? With your chain as a pattern they can make a replacement in couple of minutes. Inquire by phone about a price you may be pleasantly surprised. Give them Oregon number 91VG040G (low kickback, most likely what your saw is fitted with). If you feel adept you might try a slightly more agressive chain but the odds of kick back increase. HTH

I have a new 18'' craftsman, couldnt resist the price 42 cc, but i want a bigger chain, it has a standard 3/8 small chain for trimming branches, I know to do this will require a different bar and sprocket...

Many time the big chain stores (like Sears, Wal Mart, etc.) will have products made to their own specs (re:cheaper), which makes getting replacement parts difficult at best and impossible at worst. Another reason they do this is so that you won't be able to find the exact same model elsewhere at a better price and force them to match or beat it. It's entirely possible that if you can't find the longer bar & chain at Sears, you won't find it anywhere.

Where do I find a replacement chain for my McCulloch Eager ****** 2318av chain saw (model # 600038-12)?

Your friendly neighborhood chainsaw shop can fabricate one in about 5 minutes. Take your existing chain for use as pattern.

If original 18" bar.
part number(pn) MCC 21927533

Your saw with 18" bar returns
Oregon pn 91VG060G.
This can be easily crossed to other manufacturers chain. You might consider a more aggressive chain (dependent on your level of expertise). HTH
