22 in Yard Maching push mower. Used 1 1/2 seasons. Bought new. Was running great. Shut it off for about 5 min. Upon restarting, it ran very uneven when the choke was disengaged. You could see it throtteling itself. WHAT TO DO?

The new ones great, I have one press primer bulb 3 times, it starts.

check your spark plug and also check to be sure you have spark. if you have no spark,,,your control cable has probley streatched and not letting your kill switch disingage. there is a cable that runs down to the engine. follow it down and remove the cover that it goes into. unhook the black wire and try to start the engine. if it starts, put new cable on.

You probably got gunk in the carb?
Dirty gas, bad can, old, etc, etc

Clean the tank really good, remove & replace the fuel filter, add new gas - After.... you clean out the Carb. Maybe even rebuild with an inexpensive kit you can get on eBay or Amazon.

still your gas could be not good for a small engine like a push mower. check your local content of ethanol in you area. ethanol is very,very,very bad for small engines. ethanol(alcohol) over time creates moisture in the gas and moisture(water) dont burn. I say check you local gas station or go buy gas other place. look around for special gas like for fleet. empty all gas and remove carb. bowl and fill with new gas.

For a manual go to mtd.com You will need the model number to find the correct one. As for you problem take the fuel line of where it hooks to the carb see if you have fuel getting to the carb. If you do you will need to remove and clean the carb. Before you remove the whole carb take the bolt out that holds the carb bowl on and clean it this might do to trick.

I typically do 6 things in this situation:

1. Verify that the gas tank is full and closed
2. Verify that the oil is filled to the "full line"
3. Remove and inspect air filter clean/replace if necessary
4. Remove and inspect spark plug clean/replace as neccesary
5. Apply warm air to engine block via hair dryer at the spark plug for 5 minutes and attempt to restart
6. If that doesn't work allow the mower to "rest" for 30 minutes and repeat step 5.

Have you cleaned the breather ? They can become so clogged up that mower won't run.

Immediate thought is that something got ingested into the needle feeding the carb. Might have to remove the carb and clean it out thoroughly to maintain fuel flow through the engine. Generally if it runs a few seconds and shuts down then it is running off the initial burst of fuel and then starving out for any more from there.
