How can I see the actual running time of my Designer 1 - mine is from 2002 and not USB? Last I looked it was 164 hours but by mistake I touched the reset button so now it is 0 hours! Is there any way I can check the actual total running time?

Unfortunately that is the only time counter on the system, as you mentioned the USB models allow you to view total running time, but to my knowledge there is no way on the Designer 1 non-usb to check it aside from the "counter" you were checking before that reported 164 hours. May I ask why you are so concerned about the running time? Or are you just curious how long you have been using it? Either way, I am so sorry, there is no way to check total run time.

Thanks and sorry about that!

Actually, there is a way but it is supposed to be used by machine technicians only. I don't feel it is appropriate to give the button presses required to access this area in this forum, but if Alice cares to spend a bit of time on Google searching I don't think it would take too long to find the information she needs. You just need to be very careful not to touch anything on the screen while you are in that part of the software unless you really, really know what you are doing.

I agree with you Pamsquilt! But I did find a link on Youtube that demonstrates that. The operator demoing in the video expresses with caution as well.
    Here's the link-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BQRIRzz1...
    Hope it helps!

Husqvarna Viking Designer 1 sewing machine. The touch screen is not working properly. Some areas not responding to touch.

Question edited for clarity.
Question moved to model category.

Try recalibrating the screen. Having said that, with the number of adverts for buying one, it looks like there is an issue.

Power on the Designer 1. Press the "Reverse Feed" and "Sensor Pivot Foot" buttons simultaneously to enter the device's service menu. Press the "Cal" button on the display. Tap the "+" mark on the display to recalibrate the touch panel display.

I just bought a used Designer 1 ESS machine and I do not know how to use the dongle

You don't need a dongle for the sewing machine. You either have a dongle for the computer embroidery software in which case it goes in your computer when you've installed the software, or you have a USB stick that has the Husqvarna designs on it.

What colour is it? The USB sticks are blue, the 3D software dongles are red. Only problem is, I think the 4D software dongles are blue too!! My Husqvarna Designer 1 USB embroidery stick (blue) has "USB Embroidery Stick" written on it - have a look for that. The dongle will have Hasp or something like that written on it.

If you are pretty sure it is a USB stick, put it in your machine and turn it on. Then touch the disk/stick icon on the lower right hand side of the screen. Your machine should start to read the stick and you will get a pop-up menu where you can choose from the folders on the stick. If you don't, go into the PROG screen. Touch MENU, touch the disk/stick icon and see if the embroidery files on the stick come up then. Each machine came with a set of designs called Embroidery Disk 100 and three alphabets - Palace Script, Kaligraphia and Clarendon. These should all be on the USB stick.

In the event that it is a dongle you have, but not the software, you need to contact the person from whom you purchased the machine.

You can download the Husqvarna designs from the Husqvarna website, but you will need a Husqvarna formatted USB stick to do this. Therefore, you do need software on your computer. There are some low-cost alternatives to the Husqvarna software - Embird and Sew What come to mind. However, a Husqvarna program called 3D Disk Manager USB came with every USB Designer 1 machine, so you should have got that when you purchased the machine. This will be enough for you to load designs from the HV website and from other websites where you purchase designs.

How do I find out the embroidery time on my Viking Designer 1 sewing machine?

Hi there, If your trying to find out how long it took you to embroider something, You need to go to your touch screen menu- touch Set- then down at the bottom left of this screen and touch More- three (3) times you'll get to where it says Running time:(It's the 3rd Selection) There it will actually show you the total running time (Sewing and Embroidery If you haven't zeroed it out by hitting the zero (0) next to that selection.) You can do this on the touch screen with the embroidery unit on or off. You need to touch the zero (0) to zero out your time before you start an embroidery project. Once you've done this and you've finished an embroidery you can check how long it took by the touch screen menu- Set- touch More 3 times and there you will see how long on the Running time it took to embroider your design. I hope that helped. The total time your machine has ran (Embroidery and Sewing) is kept in Memory on the Service Screen that your Technician gets into when he services your machine. So your not actually wiping out that. The Set menu is just for you to keep track of how long your machine sews or embroiders something pretty much. I hope that helped you out with your question. Happy Sewing!! Kathy

Counting hours sewn

Go into the Service Menu by pressing and holding the reverse feed button and the sensor foot pivot button while switching the machine on. The display screen will now show Menu 1. On the third row down touch MENU button. The display changes to show Menu 2. At bottom of screen you will now see ON-TIME - SEW-TIME - EMBR-TIME.
I would not recommend touching any other buttons or settings. Switch the machine off and restart as normal.

You can find this information by touching the configuration icon (this looks like pliers). The item that shows you how many sewing hours is called Timer. You should know that this can be reset to 0 by anyone.

Viking Designer 1 won't embroider

I have seen some of the older style machines that are very susceptible to static charge. Usually this doesn't happen with newer ones. If you get static shocks on door knobs in your house, do not touch the screen of your machine with your finger. Use a stylus instead. You may also try touching the metal presser bar just above the foot and ankle when sitting down at the machine prior to using the screen. This should not be happening with a new machine. Check with your dealer.
