I have a Poulan 450 push lawnmower, and it's only a month old, and I've only used it once before to cut my yard. It worked perfectly, and now three weeks later I added gas to the mower, and the oil level is right where it needs to be, but it will sound like it's about to start and then hums back to a hault. Even after I prim it, it does the same thing over and over. I've tried 20 times, and it still will not start. Please help!

Remove spark plug,it may be fouled and have gas on it,clean it and then reinstall and try if that doesn't work, try a new one. Also check the air filter, may need cleaned or replaced.

these carb /air filter housing gaskets were notorious for warping? there are 2 screws behind the air cleaner remove those and disconnect the throttle cable pull the black square housing off and replace the gasket with a rubber one from local mower shop?

Are you getting spark first of all. If you are getting spark do you have good gas? If you have good gas most likely your carb needs some attention maybe you had some old gas sitting in there and something inside is gummed up it might need cleaning.

Check air filter, replace if needed.
Check engine oil level and condition. Add/change as needed.
Check spark plug. Clean and re-gap if needed (.030 gap)
Drain the fuel and replace with fresh premium grade gasoline. If your local station has a notice on the pump regarding Ethanol content, drive to another station!

Most owner's manuals specify 89 octane or higher and most warranties become void if E85 fuel is used.

And finally, Oxygenated fuels are not your mower's best friend. :-)

Hope this helps.

Sounds like the center bowl nut is restricted. Remove it with either an 1/2 in or 9/16th box inch wrench and clean out all the holes with a small wire. Reinstall it and then give it a try. If that doesn't work then you'll have to remove the carburetor for a complete over haul. Take special note as to how the governor rod is connected before removing. If you have a digital camera take a picture of it, so you can refer to it in the event you can't remember how it goes back on. It probably doesn't have a fuel filter so it does become very subjected to dirt from the tank. The only filter you have there is manufactured in the tank outlet. some Tecumseh models just have a nipple and no filter built in them with a straight hose coming off the tank directly to the carburetor. Good luck

you may need to disassamble the carb and clean it thoroughly.

My electric lawnmower sometimes does not start, just humms. Then I TURN IT OVER, AND TURN THE BLADE A LITTLE BIT. the blade feels hard at first but soon feels loose. then it wil start as normal

The lawnmowers electric motor has a bad spot on the armature. You need to replace the electrical brushes that contact the motor. If you are lucky you may just need to clean them and reinsert them in to brush holders.

Hi goldengear...

Make sure you have installed the blade on the right way, if it is installed upside down then it will "beat" the grass instead of cutting it and make a terrible cut, also make sure the blade is good and sharp.
The rough running may be due to trash in your carburetor, I would advise to clean your carburetor and also check you fuel tank for trash, water, etc. if there is any trash, water, etc in there then you need to also clean the fuel tank.
Do one more thing and check/clean/replace your fuel filter if you have one.

How do I replace the starter spring/coil on my self propelled scottts lawnmower

There are some wonderful videos that guys have produced up on Youtube. Here's a good example of one. The guy is doing an old Honda engine, but they're pretty much all the same. Once you've done one, you get the idea and can do pretty much any of them. Good luck to you; I hope this helps:

I hit a rock with my push lawnmower. The

Oooh boy, I know you bent the shaft, but why it is blowing oil out the carb, I don't know if I would even bother with the blade, you could go buy the same mower, then you would have some parts. Unless you just bumped it hard enough to throw oil around in there, it might settle down, but it is a long shot. I hit a stump once and bent the crank, it was lights out for that mower. Hope this helps.

Poulan Pro lawnmower (Briggs and Stratton 128 cc engine) will start when primed but will not stay running. New Lawnmovewr, < 3 months since purchased at Walmart

IF IT IS A BRIGG & STRATTON ENGINE YOU CAN GO ONLINE TO BRIGGS & STRATTON.COM AND ASK THEIR TECH SECTION ABOUT THE PROBLEM. FOR 3 MONTHS OLD SOUNDS LIKE DIRT OR WATER MAY HAVE GOTTEN INTO THE TANK. WHEN YOU PRIME THE MOWER YOU ARE FORCING GAS INTO THE CARB AND ENGINE AFTER THAT THE ENGINE SHOULD PULL THE GAS IN THE ENGINE, I WOULD SAY THE CARB MITE NEED REBUILDING BUT NOT AT 3 MONTHS

Mastercraft rear lower plastic guard removal info???

I changed my guard by cutting the rod that is crimped and I got a heavy piece of wire that was the same thickness of the rod and I shoved it through and bent or crimped the ends with vice grips . It works good now. I cut the old rod with bolt cutters but a hack saw will work.
