I need to remove the clutch assembly from the shaft. Is there a special tool or technique I need to know about?

You will need to remove the bolt from the centre of the centrafugal clutch and remove it from the shaft with a flywheel puller. Good luck!

FLYWHEEL REMOVAL:

Use long-nosed pliers to remove the washer from the shaft.

While applying steady upward pressure to the flywheel, firmly strike the end of the shaft with a rubber mallet until the flywheel breaks free. Several blows from the mallet may be necessary to free the flywheel from the engine assembly.

2004 Hyundai Tiburon Clutch.

First you need to remove the Transaxle.

Manual Transaxle System REMOVAL

1. Remove the engine cover.
2. Remove the battery terminal.
3. Remove the air duct.
4. Remove the battery tray.
5. Remove the air cleaner.
(1) Upper
(2) Lower
6. Remove the back-up lamp switch.
7. After removing the CKP sensor, O2 sensor and oil pressure switch wiring bracket, separate the connectors.
8. Remove the brake fluid leveling sensor connector.
9. Remove the speedometer driven gear connector.
10. Remove the clutch release cylinder mounting bolt.
11. Remove the cotter pin of the shift cable (transaxle side).
12. Remove the cotter pin of the select cable. (transaxle side)
13. Remove the clip of the shift cable (transaxle side).
14. Remove the clip of the select cable (transaxle side).
15. Separate the steering column shaft joint.
16. Separate the power steering oil pump hose.
Be careful not to leak after separating.
17. Separate the hose after removing the clip of the power steering return hose.
18. Remove the upper connecting transaxle bolt.
19. Separate the start motor.
20. Install the engine support fixture.
21. After removing the tire, remove the caliper.
22. Remove the transaxle side cover.
23. Remove the transaxle side under cover.
24. Separate the tie rod end.
25. Remove the wheel speed sensor and the knuckle mounting bolt.
26. Drain the oil.
27. Remove the transaxle mounting bracket.
(1) Insulator bolt
(2) Body side mounting bolt (Upper)
(3) Body side mounting bolt (Side)
(4) Transaxle side mounting bolt.
28. Remove the front roll stopper.
(1) Insulator bolt
(2) Stopper bolt (Upper)
(3) Stopper bolt (Lower)
29. Remove the rear roll stopper.
(1) Insulator bolt
(2) Stopper bolt
30. Remove the drive shaft.
31. Remove the front muffler.
32. Remove the sub frame mounting bolt.
33. Install the transaxle jack.
34. Remove the transaxle lower mounting bolt to the engine.
35. Remove the transaxle assembly.

INSTALLATION
Installation is the reverse of the removal.

Then inspect and replace the clutch place and pressure plate.

INSTALLATION
1. Apply multipurpose grease to the release bearing contact surfaces and the release cylinder contact surface of the clutch release fork assembly.
When installing the clutch, apply grease to each part, but be careful not to apply excessive grease. It can cause clutch slippage and judder.
2. Apply multipurpose grease into the groove of the release bearing.
3. Apply multipurpose grease to the clutch release lever fulcrum contact surface of the clutch release fork assembly.
4. Clean the surfaces of the flywheel and pressure plate thoroughly with fine sandpaper or crocus cloth, and make certain that all oil or grease has been removed.
5. Apply a small amount of multipurpose grease to the clutch disc splines and input shaft splines.
Do not apply more grease than necessary. Too much grease could cause clutch slip or judder.
6. Using the special tool, install the clutch disc to the flywheel. When installing the clutch disc, be sure that the surface having the manufactures stamp is towards the pressure plate side.
7. Install the the clutch cover assembly onto the flywheel and install the six (6) bolts through the clutch cover into the flywheel.
8. Tighten the bolts by one or two turns at a time, in succession, to avoid bending the cover flange.
If a special tool is not available, tighten the bolt temporarily and then torque to specification in diagonal torquing sequence indicated below.
TIGHTENING TORQUE
Single mass flywheel:
15~22 N·m (150~220 kg·cm, 11~16 lb·ft)
Dual mass flywheel:
20~27 N·m (200~270 kg·cm, 14~19 lb·ft)
9. Remove the special tool.
10. Install the transaxle. (Refer to GROUP - Manual Transaxle Assembly)
11. Adjust the clutch pedal free-play. (See CH-6)
INSPECTION
1. Check the diaphragm spring end for wear and uneven height.
Replace if wear is evident or height difference exceeds the limit.
2. Check the pressure plate surface for wear, cracks and color change.
3. Check the rivets for looseness and replace the clutch cover assembly if necessary.
CLUTCH DISC
1. Check the clutch facing for loose rivets, uneven contact, deterioration due to seizure, adhesion of oil, or grease, and replace the clutch disc if defective.
2. Measure the rivet sink and replace the clutch disc if it is out of specification
3. Check for torsion spring play and damage and if defective, replace the clutch disc.
4. Clean the splines on the input shaft and install the clutch disc.
If the disc does not slide smoothly or if play is excessive, replace the clutch disc and/or the input shaft.
CLUTCH RELEASE BEARING
The release bearing is packed with grease. Do not use cleaning solvent or oil.
1. Check the bearing for seizure, damage or abnormal noise. Also check the diaphragm spring contacting points for wear.
2. Replace the bearing if the release fork contacting points are worn abnormally.
INSTALLATION
Installation is the reverse of the removal.
Then remove pressure plate and Clutch plate.

1. Insert the special tool (that came with your clutch kit) in the clutch disc to prevent the disc from falling.
2. Loosen the bolts that attach the clutch cover to the flywheel in a star pattern.
3. Loosen the bolts in succession, one or two turns at a time, to avoid bending the cover flange.

How to replace clutch step by step on a toyota rav4 4wd

You need some very specialized tools to do that You'll need a jack to hold the transfer case once you remove all the bolts holding it to the transmission. Remove the drive shafts.Then you'll need to remove the transmission, again with a supporting jack. Once that has been accomplished , remove the bolts holding the clutch to the flywheel. I'd replace the pilot bearing in the flywheel that holds the input shaft to the gearbox before proceeding. There are special tools available to do that. Now assemble the clutch disk and the clutch plate and put the bolts back in without tightening them. Now take the clutch alignment tool and push it thru the clutch disk and into the new pilot bearing. position it so the clutch disk is dead center in the clutch plate and then finish tightening the bolts Put a new throw out bearing on the clutch release lever and reinstall the transmission and transfer case. Reinstall the drive shafts and replace any gear oil that may have spilled out of the transmission or transfer case. Adjust the clutch pedal clearance to spec and you're done.

How do i remove the fan and pulley on a 1987 ford ranger 2.9 v-6?

The question is: How remove clutch in order to remove fan mounted on its engine-side face.
  • Generally, the clutch drive half shaft must be uncoupled from coolant pump (impeller drive) half shaft using special wrench kit available as loaner from AutoZone (free with $79 approx deposit).
  • Best done after shroud & radiator remove after coolant drained.
  1. Uncouple coolant pump and fan clutch drive shaft(s) as follows:
    1. span across combo-pulley-sheaves-unit mounting bolt heads with large tool kit wrench, and
    2. span inline clutch coupling nut with small tool kit wrench. Then,
    3. turn small wrench (and coupling nut) CW while resisting with large wrench (CCW) to turn coupling nut until disengaged from coolant pump drive shaft.
  2. Remove fan/clutch assembly.
  3. Note direction of mounted fan hub and fan blades orientation to ensure proper re-assembly.
  4. On rear of clutch assy, remove 4 bolts to disengage and remove fan.
  5. Assemble new fan to clutch (or, preferably, new clutch and new fan) using new bolts and washers provided with fan.
  6. Couple fan-clutch assy to coolant pump drive shaft as per opposite of uncoupling step 1, above. (Turn inline nut CCW to tighten...30 ft-lb.
  7. Check that fan can be hand turned...CW.)
  8. Rest shroud over and onto fan.
  9. Replace radiator; remount shroud; reclamp hoses, and refill and air purge cooling system.

I want to replace the sprocket on a 395xp Husky. Do I need a special tool to remove the assemble? Where can I buy a service/repair manual for the 395xp as well as other Huskys?

No special tools required, a sturdy 19mm socket and an impact wrench will remove the clutch very quickly, it is just spun onto the crank shaft left han thread, if you do not have an impact wrench you will have to keep jarring the clutch off with the 19mm socket against compression. I have checked the UK web site, there is no workshop manual available, i can e mail parts lists for specific saws if you wish, there are workshop manuals for certain models, i can answer most questions on Husqvarna models.

Whats it take to install a clutch hub for a 1988 police bike flhpt

To install a clutch is not what I call an easy job but not an extremely difficult job either. You are going to need some special tools however.

The tools you'll need are an impact wrench, a large socket to fit the compensator nut and one to fit the mainshaft nut, a primary locking bar, torque wrenches that will torque to 150 foot pounds and 70 foot pounds in the left handed direction, and a special tool required to disassemble the clutch assembly.

First, disconnect the battery, then drain the primary and remove the outer primary cover. Use the impact wrench and appropiate socket to remove the compensator sprocket nut from the engine shaft. Remove the snap ring holding the release plate in the center of the clutch assembly and remove the LEFT HANDED THREADED mainshaft nut. Take the nut off the chain tensioner and remove the primary drive (engine sprocket, adjuster, and clutch assembly) as a unit.

Now, using the special tool, compress the clutch spring and remove the lock ring holding the clutch assembly together. Disassemble the clutch and reassemble it with the new clutch hub. Reinstall the primary drive. Apply one line of Loctite 271 inside the mainshaft nut and torque it to 70-80 foot pounds LEFT HANDED. Apply two lines of Loctite 271 (red) to the compensator nut and torque it to 150-165 foot pounds. This is what the locking bar is for, to keep the engine from turning while applying the torque to these two nut. Adjust the primary chain and reinstallt the outer primary. Add about one quart of lubricant to the primary. Reconnect the battery. Adjsut the clutch and cable.

Gear cases are easy to take apart with the proper tools.I suggest buying a Clymer Manuel. it has a list of special tools. TEAR DOWN PROCEDURE(1) remove the propeller shaft bearing carrier assembly by removing the carrier ring. takes a special tool. (2)the bearing carrier depending on the running condition will become stuck in the gear case. there is a special tool for removing the bearing carrier out of the gear case.(3) the bearing carrier houses the reverse gear make sure the reverse gear was removed when the bearing carrier came out. (4)look inside of gear case you will see the propshaft assembly, drive shaft with pinion gear assembly, and the forward gear.(5) on the drive shaft pinion gear you will see a nut. there is a close clearance between that nut and the clutch dog on the propshaft assembly. it takes a special wrench to get this nut off plus a spline tool to hold the drive shaft as your turning the nut off. you can make them both but be careful.(6) there are two different styles for this model of stern drive a "R" and a "MR" the "MR" drive has a retaining nut for bearing preload for the drive shaft. need special tool to remove it. the "R" drive has a spring loaded pin on the top of the driveshaft to control bearing preload. no special tool need to remove shaft after pinion nut removal.(7) once the driveshaft is removed the propshaft comes out by lining up the shift shaft just right. (8) turn the shift shaft until the shift crank is at a right angle to the propeller shaft. you can't see the shift crank because it is behind the forward gear you have to go by experience or feel. once you have the shift crank lined up properly push the propshaft to the left side of the gear case housing then pull out at that angle. GOAL propshaft "clutch dog actuating shaft" in basic terms, is like a hook that grabs onto the shift crank. you unhook it by moving the propshaft tip to the side, causing the back of the propshaft inside the housing, to unhook and move away the the shift crank. it sounds complicated but once you do it you see how easy it is.(9) once you have the propshaft and the forward gear out you can leave the shift shaft inside.there is no need to remove it. have fun
