Two issues: with my STR-DG820 receiver: 1) In the TV mode, the AFD setting will not "set" resulting in no sound or picture to the TV 2) When starting, there seems to be a feedback issue (non-auditory) that is causing the TV to turn off. There is a loud click when this happens. Any "easy" solutions to these issues?

SOURCE: Sony STR DB-930 Receiver jumping into protector mode

I went through the amp/receiver and used small star washers on all the grounding screws I could find including the one securing the transformer, cleaned dust off all circuit boards, checked output transistors and fuses, all OK.

Re Assembled unit and it worked OK.

I will buy a fan and fan it to avoid sourcing heatsinks for the previusly suggested IC's.

Thanks for the technical help, sure solved my problem.

Regards

Darryl.

SOURCE: sony str-dg820. having a problem getting video on tv

Hook up Composite / Component Monitor Out wire from receiver to TV video input because receiver will not change analog input into HDMI
You need to connect receiver and TV through analog video terminals as above.
Actually you are expecting that receiver will convert DVD player and Xbox analog video input into digital HDMI signal for TV and This is incorrect.

SOURCE: I am setting up Sony A/V Rcvr and cannot get video

hi my names josh your feeds arent going to feed out through that hdmi if your have hdmi coming in you will get that signal going out however depending on what your signal source is for the rest of your compenents that will determine your problem for instance if you if your runing all compenent which y p b or video which is just standard yellow red and white cables you have to stay with one or the other what you go into your reciever with you must go out with if analog wich is just video and audio you have to go out through your monitor out source to get a picure if compenent whic by the way will produce a far greater picture it is your y p and b jacks and the color of those are green blue and red those are just for picture only not audio you have to still run audio with these cables you go in the unit with those you have to go out with those directly to your tv then you want check you reciever video setting to make sure it is set for that and well as your tv to make sure you are in the right monitor or screen to get your picture

Testimonial: "Okay, thank you Josh. Your message is difficult to read. Short complete sentences would make your solution clearer but I believe I understand. Thx."

I have a sony str-db940, since it came back from being repaired, it reports 'not in use' when the 'sur' button is pressed and won't decode surround sound. Any ideas?

Check if you're using the digital cables like optical cable to get the audio from the receiver. If yes, please select the Input mode to AUTO by pressing the mode button repeatedly. If you're using a analog cables, please try to change the sound field and check. Press the A.F.D button repeatedly to change the sound field and try. You can also try connecting a different audio source like Cable box, dvd player and check the issue.
If the issue persists, please reset the receiver. To reset the Receiver, turn OFF the unit and press n hold the MODE + button and Power button till S.F Initialize appears. If the issue still persists, you may be having 90 days warranty after the date of repair or original warranty which ever is longer. Contact sony to resolve the issue.
