To Whom it May Concer: At the school I work we have a Hobart D-300 Mixer. When we mix bread dough it pulls alot of current and trips the breaker. The max current draw on the name plate is 10.1 amps. I have seen the current go over 30 amps during the mixing process. Under no load the mixer pulls 7.8 amps. I dont have any information about this machine on paper and I can only go so far with troubleshooting. My questions to you are: Is it normal for the mixer to draw 7.8 amps under no load? And is their a manual online I can look at so I can check the oil levels and make sure I do not have a low oil/needs greasing condition. 7.8 sounds a little high. I'd inspect the GREASE in the unit. Just take off the top cover and then remove the dust cap. The grease in a D-300 is a really thin grease. It lays in the gear case. If things look dry, I'd consider tearing it down, cleaning it up, and repacking it. Get the grease from Hobart. The wrong grease will stress the motor futher.

Also, make sure you're not overloading the unit once you solve your problem. (link above)

Hobart A200 Tripping Internal Circuit Breaker

Check the power cable. It may have been kinked and shorted. Check if any of the internal switch or connectors are touching the body of the mixer. Some moving parts maybe stuck or dislodged due to the horizontal placement.

What can you use for a hobart h600

The Hobart H600 is a 2 horse power, 60 quart mixer, it can be used for many things in the kitchen. It can be used to make about any kind of food that needs mixed, wiped or kneaded. It works well in a pizzeria for all facets of making pizza from the dough, to shredding the cheese with an attachment, to a restaurant that makes mashed potatoes and fresh bread, to a full service bakery.
However, the biggest thing that you need to know is the capacity of the machine. As overloading the machine can cause damage that may be costly and take a technician to fix. I do not know what attachments you currently have so I will go over a few of them.

The main attachments are a Wire whip, Flat beater, and Dough hook. There are three different types a "D" wire whip (has many wires and is evenly spaced) this is used to whip egg whites, whipping whip cream, etc. The "C Wing" (has six tines in it) is used for items that are heavy for the D wire whip, like whipping potatoes or icing. The last is the "I" whip is similar to the D wire whip just with less tines. The flat beater is used to mashing or mixing examples are mashed potatoes before they are whipped, cake mixes that do not require whipping, batters and icing. The Dough hook is used for kneading dough examples are pizza dough, bread dough, etc.

The biggest thing when using your mixer is to know its capacity for the material that you are mixing. All though this is one of the bigger machines it still has limits. You should refer to this the following link for the capacity of your machine:
https://my.hobartcorp.com/resourcecenter/ProductDocumentation/F-7701.pdf

There are also a few attachments that can be put on to the No. 12 attachment hub. A few of these are a vegetable slicer-grater and meat grinder.

Hi, We have a 3phase Hobart D300 Mixer onboard and the cooks are complaining that there is not enough grunt. I have checked the 3 speeds and they are working finee however when dough is being mixed it...

Hello Veelec,

As the machine is mixing dough it seems that it is getting sluggish. This is caused by the machine being over loaded. Although it is a 30 qt mixer that is for liquid filled capacity. I do not know what kind of dough you are mixing so I will give you a light to medium dough and then the heavy dough capacity. Also on this machine all dough should be mixed in speed 1 or low to keep from damaging the machine.

You will need to know the Absorption Rate (AR) of you dough, to find this you take the weight of the water divide the weight of the water and multiply by 100.

AR = Water Weight / Flour Weight x 100%

The higher the percent the higher the capacity the lower the percent the lower the capacity. Also the temperature of the water will have to be considered as the colder the water the harder the dough it is to mix the dough the batch should be reduced by 15% to 20% for water temperature between 65-75 degrees.

For a Light to Medium dough with a 60% AR the unit capacity is 45 pounds in first speed.
For a Heavy dough at 55% the units capacity is 30 pounds in first speed.

The above capacities are for bread doughs, if you are doing pizza dough, dough nut dough or wheat dough please post back to this thread and I will help you to find the capacities.

I hope that I have helped you with your problem and would like to thank you for using FixYa to find a solution to your problem.

Is 300 w mixer powerful enough to mix bread dough?

Your mixer is easily able to handle the kneading of bread dough. Please advise:

9 cups of all purpose white flour, maximum.

6 cups of specialty flour, maximum. This is any flour besides all purpose white.

Bread doughs are only to be needed on speed 2, and never for longer than 7 minutes.

This is all stated in the Use and Care guide for the mixer itself. If these guidelines are not followed, it may lead to a product failure.
