Is there supposed to be an orange "beam" for autofocus with the Nikon Coolpix L3? I am having difficulty with the autofocus sometimes locking and sometimes not, sometimes with the same shot one after the other.

The movie should be transferred automatically when you transfer the images from the sd card. There should be a folder where the pics are transferred, usually through a program called Picture Project. Look for an icon with the Quicktime logo on it or a movie logo. That should be it.
I think this was a firmware fault on some cameras. Check with Nikon to see if there is a new firmware for your particular camera. This can be downloaded free of charge and uploaded to the camera via USB.
