You are NOT focused properly. Put the eyepiece with the largest number written on it into the focuser. DO NOT use the 2x barlow if you have one.

Go outside during the daytime and practice focusing on a distant object. Turn the focus knob back and forth slowly until the image is in sharp focus.

Testimonial: "thank you for you'r responce but is there ane chance u could tell me where i would get the eyepieces from please as there was no eyepieces with the telescope when it was given to me thank you very mutch paul "

Also, all astronomical telescopes show upside down images. There is nothing wrong with your telescope. Read my Frequently Asked Questions TIP on my profile page.

Yes, many places sell eyepieces. They come in 3 sizes, .965, 1.25, and 2 inch sizes. MEASURE the hole in the focuser. Most scopes can use the 1.25 inch size. Cheap toy telescopes may need .965 inch eyepieces which are more difficult to find. Just another reason NOT to buy a telescope on Craigslist or Wal Mart.

    Try these two retailers:

I just brought a Tasco 302911 114mm x 500mm reflector telescope from an op shop although it didn't come with any lenses. Where I can get lenses and which lenses do I buy?

I have a Tasco 302911 (Old model) D=114mm F=500mm that has been sitting around in the closet for some time. Has become dirty from sitting around and would like to clean up and adjust as required. Would...

The only thing fragile are the main primary mirror and the smaller secondary mirror anything else can be cleaned with Windex and or Pledge.

To learn how to clean the mirrors read this:

http://www.astro-tom.com/tips_and_advice/cleaning_optics.htm#article1
The mirror should be VERY dirty or leave it alone.

You must do this gently or you will scratch the mirror. Once the mirror is clean you will need to re-collimate the scope. Watch this video:

I'm looking for a manual for a Tasco 851TR telescope - any suggestions

Here is the support center for Tasco. Several manuals are listed on this page about 1/2 way down. Find one that is similar to your telescope. They all assemble and are used the same way.

Tasco only sells two types of telescopes a REFLECTOR and a REFRACTOR style telescope.

What eyepieces sizes have you used?
Try using the largest eyepieces you have (20mm, 25mm or higher) for a wide field of view. If your eyepiece is to small (maybe 15mm or below) you will have too much magnification and the moon will be a blur.
