Choose a laptop or WiFi device that is currently connected to your network. If none of your devices are connected, use an Ethernet cable and connect a computer or laptop directly to your wireless gateway.
Open a web browser and go to the Admin Tool (http://10.0.0.1) - this is the wireless gateway's administration site. The default settings are:
Username: admin
Password: password (case-sensitive)
Note: If you changed your Admin Tool password previously, you will need to use your new login information. If you don't remember your Admin Tool password, you will need to factory reset your wireless gateway. Instructions on how to do this can be found by reviewing the wireless gateway user guides at Wireless Gateway Guides.
On the left navigation menu, select Gateway, then Connection and then Wi-Fi.
Under Private Wi-Fi Network, you'll see the Name (SSID) of your WiFi network. (You may want to write down this information.)
Wireless Gateway 1 customers, click EDIT at the right.
Wireless Gateway 2 customers, click EDIT for both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands to view the settings for each. ?
Check the box next to Show Network Password. The Network Password (Network Key) will be displayed above. (You may want to write down this information.)
On this page, you can also edit your wireless network information, including changing your Network Name (SSID) or Password (Network Key). If you make any changes, remember to click SAVE SETTINGS.
Now that you have your Network Name (SSID) and Password (Network Key), you can connect your WiFi devices to your network.
If you have changed any information, use the new information to reconnect all your WiFi devices to your network.
Learn how an XFINITY Internet subscriber visiting your home can connect to WiFi without sharing your Network Name (SSID) or Password (Network Key)
You need to make sure that youre trying to connect to the right network or network name and you need to enter the network key if the wireless network is secured. if cant remember the network key you need to access the router page and on the wireless setting you can obtain the network key, you can also personalize the network name and network key and the security as well for you to remember easily
The network key is most likely the password if you like for your wireless internet connection. If this is not your connection, you cant obviously get the network key. If it is your wireless connection, then you will need to reset your wireless router and set it up again with a new password that you can remember
This may be a silly question, but have you input the WEP key for this new router into your laptop? It will be printed on the router with the serial number and such. It is the middle set, if I remember correctly. View all available networks with the laptop and pick yours. It should ask for the key. Input your new key and such, and you should be good as gold.
An easy way to get the password for your wireless network is to connect your laptop directly to the unit via ethernet cable. After you get an ip address connect to the router. If you dont know how to do this you can usually go to manufacturers website and it will tell you how to login to the router. Once you are logged into the router you can go to the Wireless Settings page and see what key you are using and what type of encryption you are using.
Try logging into the router by opening you web browser and in the address bar type 192.168.0.1 , if you are prompted for a username and password enter them and click ok (username usually "admin" password usually "root" if they havn't been changed.
Go to the wireless tab and see if it is displayed in there, if it isnt then make a new one and save it but by doing this all other devices connected to it will need the new key putting in but at least you can now connect your new laptop and surf away.
YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO FIND THE WEP KEY IN YOUR INTERNET CONNECTIONS. IF THERE IS NO WEP KEY, JUST CREATE ONE AND YOU SHOULD BE GOOD TO GO. THIS CONNECTION LINK HAS A TAB TO SHOW CHARACTERS IF THE KEY HAS BEEN ENTERED. YOU WILL PROBABLY HAVE TO REMEMBER IT, OR JUST CREATE A NEW CONNECTION WITH A NEW WEP KEY! THAT IS THE EASY WAY! GOOD LUCK.
