Pull cord broke off ceoling fan

The pull cord to the light feature for the ceiling fan snapped off with no hint of where it originated. I still have the cord, but have no idea where to reconnect it. I now have no means to use the light portion of the fan, just the blades/fan portion works now with its own individual cord which is still intact.
Any help or pictures would be greatly appreciated.

The cord attaches to the switch that controls the lights. It looks similar to the one that controls the fan. You can get replacements at home improvement stores that sell fans. You can get a manual from Hampton Bay's web site.

Whether there is a reset switch on this unit or not would depend on the model. If you no longer have the owners manual you should be able to get it from the hampton web site. Many fans have a thermal fuse inline that probably was blown when the bulb broke. The cheaper models do not and then I would guess you burned out the switch.

Do the blades spin freely? If not, something may have fallen into the motor, jamming the blades. That would cause this. Also, make sure there is a good connection at the wire that feeds power to the fan motor (usually black, blue is the light) Good luck.

SOURCE: How do I replace the light switch in a hampton bay

Hi ,,, replacement switches for ceiling fan lights can be found at most appliance or building supply stores. Try Home Depot, Ace, Lowes. Make sure that you get the correct switch. With a single lamp you only need an on/off switch.

mcdevito75 here, You"ll have to remove the cover close to the ceiling to get at the switch, Make sure the wall switch and fuse are out. Note the wire position and replace the switch with 1 from a hardware store. Are you sure that toggle switch is for the lights, as you should have another for the fan. Usually the wakk switch is used to turn the lights on and a toggle switch used to start the fan.

Unfortunately you can't buy one blade. Blades are made in sets and have to be balanced within a few grams of each other. If you can find the supplier for this brand there is a small chance you may be able to buy a new set of blades but you will need to know the model as well. Blades aren't interchangeable between brands or models.

Most likely you will need to buy a whole new fan.

My ceiling fan has two pull chains The pull chain for the light broke too short. When it broke the light was off. Now I don't have a ceiling light for my kitchen. How can I replace the pull cord?

You will need to replace the pull cord switch. It is inexpensive. You will need to open up the fixture and reemove the old one. Usually it is held on with a nut. If you are not sure of what switch to buy, take out the old one and bring it to a hardware store. Make sure the power is off. Cut the two line to the old switch and splice in the new switch with wire nuts, also use some electrical tape to insulate the connection. Reinstall the nut and close up the fixture. Good luck.

PULL CHAIN FOR LIGHT BROKE AND IS INSIDE THE UNIT. HOW DO I GET THE LIGHT UNIT OFF TO GET TO THE PULL CHAIN UNIT.

"PULL CHAIN FOR LIGHT BROKE AND IS INSIDE THE UNIT. HOW DO I GET THE LIGHT UNIT OFF TO GET TO THE PULL CHAIN UNIT."

My oh my!
I don't know of any shortcuts, and the working position does not make the operation a pleasurable one. Not in Summertime!

The time I had to repair that, I needed to pull the whole fan down. Once the whole fan was down, the rest was easy!

It's easier that it appears, but mark all the wires connected in the box.
There is USUALLY a steel cable attached to the fan assembly and the box, to prevent the thing accidentally falling on someone's head.

If you don't have a helper, taking the blades off may be a good idea, but don't take my word for that. Putting them back on was no picnic.

FYI. If you don't have any bead-chain handy, a suitable lenght of sash cord is probably the best replacement.

Ceiling fan stopped working after power spike blew the breaker. I reset the breaker and all else in the room came on but not fan. Does it have an internal reset?

If you own a Hunter Original, there is no reset button, but MANY people that have a remote control added (includng me) have , once power has been restored, found that the chain was pulled by someone and it got into the off position, rather than the slow, medium or high setting. With the circuit hot, pull the chain one more time and try to turn on your fan with the remote again.
Hope this helps.
