I have activate this "brand new from ebay" phone with our service (verizon), and when I go to initialize it (*228), it cuts off after the automated person comes on (in about 5 seconds). It will accept voice mail and txt msgs, but will not stay connected for more than 5 seconds. Verizon did everything they can. Do you think the phone is defective?

This means that the phone has not been programmed. Call Verizon customer service to activate the phone. You can also program the phone by calling *228 and choosing option to program the phone.
Hello. Try to use the MEID info in the #help*help screen to try to activate the phone. If you still cannot, you need to fix MEID and ESN file on your phone.
any verizon phone should be able to be activated.
try this-
1. turn phone on
2. call *228
3. follow the instruction to automated activation system.
verizon has given me alot of **** about activating any new (or old) phone i've gotten because i dont upgrade my service. i just buy my phones off ebay for a way cheaper price.
Verizon customer service isn't always very helpful, but the verizon website can be. Try clicking phones&devices under the support section. Once you select what type of phone you have, you will see that it says "activate phone" on the left side of the page. This will guide you through the activation of your phone, and the instructions are pretty clear. Hope this helps.
LG VX 8300 Reset Lock Code To DefaultIf you have your phone serviced with Verizon this should work. Dial *228 then push send. You will get 3 options to choose from. 1. To program your phone. 2. To update your roaming capabilities. Can't remember 3rd option. If you choose 1st option, program your phone you will be told to hold while your phone is being programmed. When finished your phone should turn off then on again itself. Your lock code is then set to default. (last 4 digits of phone #)
If you go it on ebay and connected it online, its not going to work. You need to get verizon to re-flash it, of cours you will have to join there terrible service witha two year contract.
Or you could go to a local wireless company like "Pocket" Which is a local wireless company thats here is San Antonio. They can flash it with there settings and you use there service. Whomever activated it online probably did something wrong.
Now if you are already with verizon, take it to them and explain that your having problems with there service. Dont mention anything about getting it online or they will blackball you. They want you to by there phones not someone elses.
Just say you got it from a friend who had verizon and they got a new phone and ported his number over and gave you his phone to use and that you want to use it with a new number.
Its worth atry, when they flash it, you shouldnt have any problems.
