Replacing keyboard on Balance laptop

Hi. I have the keyboard off of the laptop but I cannot get the new one back on! I cannot get the keybaord strip back into the connector. Every other laptop I've looked at tonight says that the connector for the strip has to be unclipped, or unlocked, in order to slide the strip in and then make sure the connector clips back over it.

When I took the old keyboard off, it slipped out without releasing anything. Is there a trick to this? Thanks.

THANKS so much! The video clip is EXACTLY what I have and you were correct in stating that I pulled hard enough to get it out the first time. Dumb move. Thanks again!!

Yes, there is a trick. This is a ZIF or zero insertion force connector. When you removed it you probably just pulled hard enough that it let the connector slide out [ :( don't do that next time though ]

There is an excellent "video" of a ZIF connector here at the bottom of the page.

Otherwise look carefully at the connector and see how the connector is divided. It should be two pieces that either slide together/apart or one part flips up and snaps back down.

BE CAREFUL THOUGH! These connectors are very easy to damage/destroy. If you are doing the correct thing to open the connector is should take very little force.

Once you've got the connector open - stick the cable end back in it and close the connector and your keyboard should be working again.

How to remove keyboard

The upper part of the laptop don't have screws. Just with the help of flat screw driver remove the strip on the upper side of the keyboard. After removing you will see two screws down with the keyboard . Remover the screws and remover the connector of keyboard that connects the keyboard with the mother board.
Put new keyboard and put the keyboard connector back. Screw it back and put the strip back.

The keyboard quit workihg

Plug in an external usb keybaord and check to see if it works. This will make sure there is nothing wrong with the laptop and just the laptop keyboard.

If this works then this means that your laptop keyboard has been disconnected from the laptop. remove your keyboard from the laptop and check to see if the connection has been damaged or removed. Unplug the connection, plug it back in and test.

Please rate if this helps.

Thanks

Hi Please could you assist me with my laptop. I was working on it and i am not sure if i disabled the keyboard. Is there a key to enable the keybaord?

The keyboard cannot be disabled as such as to do that would render the system useless.
Check the floppy cable from the keyboard to the motherboard and re boot.

Keys qazwsx12 do not work on the keyboard for my acer aspire 5920 laptop

i would suggest you get a new keyboard. Has anything been spilt on it. The keys you have said, sound like a cluster that has gone within the keyboard. The keyboard shouldnt be to much. You can take a keyboard out of a laptop either by unscrewing some screws on the back with a little keybaord next to them, or you would need to carfully pry a cover next to the keyboard to show the screws that are holding it down.

My shift key will not work for all letters, forcing me to use caps lock by pressing it before typing the letter and immediately after typing the letter. any suggestions?

This can be either a bad keyboard or a bad system board. There's no way to tell without swapping out the keyboard. Laptop keyboards aren't hard to replace and cost about $50-60. If that does not resolve the problem, learn to live with it because a replacing the system board generally isn't worth the cost unless you have it covered under warranty.

Dell Inspiron 1525 keyboard stop working - how can i fix it?

Hi,
Try in safe mode:
Switch on the laptop and start tapping 'F8' key multiple times (especially when you get the dell logo.Locate safe mode and hit enter (by using the down/up error key).Open a notepad and check all the keybaord keys one by one and confirm if it works.
Test keyboard:
Switch off the laptop (if it is already switched on). Press "Fn" and power key together, this will launch a test (psa), wait for a message "where the color bars displayed",press 'Y' to continue the test. follow onscreen instructions till you rach a window with four options,(express test, symptop test, custom tes,,,,,), click on custom test and select keyboard, click on run test.....and confirm if keybaord works while running the test.
