Try to use an earphone and plug it in to the sound port of the computer. If you are not getting any sound from the earphone then the problem is alraedy the sound card of the computer. You may call Thinkpad support at 18004267378 for support.
What do you mean it stopped working? No sound at all?
Please try the following:
1. Please make sure the sound is not set to mute. Try to adjust the sound volume.
2. Reinstall the audio driver. You can do this using the drivers disc that came with the computer or you can download the audio driver from the computer manufacturer's website: http://support.lenovo.com.
3. Try to connect an external speakers or headset. If you can hear sound on an external speakers or headset then the internal speakers of your laptop is already defective.

Your sound card is "SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio".The chipset manufacturer name is "SoundMax".It's very hard to define what sound comes with any Notebook if the driver is not installed. We too search the Internet according to the Notebook company, model, series etc.
Remove all the audio drivers and install the compatible driver. You may also need to install codecs.
