Riello Oil burner that isn't starting up after it sits
I have a Riello Oil burner. The problem is I have to restart it by pushing the red button after it has sat for a while. I've had it serviced which seemed to rule out a priming issue, along with new nozzle and such. It runs great; however it doesn't kick on by itself at times. What to do?

BUrners trip on safety for a number of reasons. When the burner is working you should not see any smoke in the smokepipe. If you do then the settings are off and adjustments need to be made. If the unit does not actually light then the problem can either be with the nozzle, the oil pump or filter. Lastly, you may not be getting spark. If you get more specific I may be able to guide you through step by step.
does it have the air damper installed? You can add a magic heater to the flue and dump heat into your basement.. thats maybe 5 to 10 percent more efficient
You need a phillips screw driver a 7/16"wrench & a dish pan to collect oil.Remove cover. Left hand side is brass ***/nipple.7/16wrench fits on & loosen a half turn. Push reset button and observe oil/air purdging from brass fitting wait for steady stream in dish.Pinch/close brass plug. You may have to repeat this untill all air is gone.Once burner fires up your done!good luck!
i have a riello oil burner 40 F5, starts to fire up for a few seconds and fails , but then it will start for a few minutes...then shuts off... house is not being heated sufficient. There's hot water but after one shower the water starts getting cold....fuel is ok any ideas please
They could have disturbed the sludge in the tank when refilling. If you do not have a filter in place it may have clogged the pump or jet and making it hard to start. These need yearly maintenance anyway. The pumps usually have a screen inside and the jet has a screen inside. First, open the bleed on the pump and purge some oil from the line and see if it is flowing freely. If so, the take the drawer assembly out and clean it. Make sure the jet is clear, by blowing through the attached oil line. You should see/feel a fine mist of oil come out. Electrodes should be about 5/32" apart for an F5.
have you tried to wipe off the fire eye on the unit if it has one? If it's dirty too then it will not see the flame and not let the unit come on correctly. Good Luck and have a Happy New Year.
by restart button you mean reset i believe, its located on top of oil burner and says only push one time .if thats the button your pushing it is the reset button or retry for oil burner if you are pushing this there is a problem with burner
Replace the nozzle, don't try and clean it. After the burner runs a few seconds, do you have to reset the control (red button) before it will start again? Does it sound like there is a pulsation in the flame when it starts or it is running out of oil? You may have a bad ignition control. Start with the small stuff, nozzle, strainer filter, oil tank filter and then work to the more complicated.
