I can't find any mounting screws or bolts on the ceiling fan motor assembly. How do I remove it from the ceiling?

Turn off the circuit breaker supplying power to the ceiling fan. The circuit breaker is in your home electrical box and may control more than just the ceiling fan. Place a stepladder under the Hampton Bay fan.

Remove the light bulbs and light covers from the fixture, if you have a light assembly on your ceiling fan. Remove the screws securing the light assembly housing to the fan with a Phillips screwdriver. Lower the light assembly, and hold it in one hand.

Twist counterclockwise the wire nuts securing the wires for the ceiling fan and light assembly, using your free hand to separate the wires. Lower the light assembly from the fan and set it in a safe place.

Turn the screws securing the fan blades to the unit with a Phillips screwdriver. Remove the blades from the fan and set them aside. Find the screws securing the canopy to the ceiling mounting plate. Loosen the screws two complete revolutions. Turn the canopy counterclockwise and unhook it from the screws. Slide the canopy over the fan motor housing and away from the fan.

Ask a helper to hold the fan motor housing if you have a Hampton Bay fan with a down rod. Slide the canopy over the down rod until it rests on top of the motor housing. Disconnect the fan wires from the ceiling wires, twisting the plastic wire caps counterclockwise. Slide the hangar ball, at the top of the down rod, out of the mounting bracket. Slide the canopy over the top of the down rod to remove it from the fan.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
   

It may be necessary to remove the hood, with the help of an assistant, for access.

1. Remove the engine mount strut and A/C compressor (if equipped) and the engine mount strut bracket assemblies.
   
2. Remove the electric cooling fan assemblies. -28467 and J 26462, or equivalent.
   
3. Raise and safely support the vehicle. Drain the engine oil.
   
4. Remove the front exhaust manifold pipe.
   
5. Remove the intermediate shaft bolt/screw.
   
6. Remove the oil level sensor.
   
7. Remove the engine splash shield.
   
8. Suitable support the drivetrain and front suspension with jack stands.
   
9. Remove the transaxle mount side frame retaining nuts from the drivetrain and suspension frame assembly.
   
10. Remove the engine mount side frame nuts from the drivetrain and suspension frame assembly.
    
11. Unfasten the rear drivetrain and front suspension frame bolts/screws.
    
12. If equipped, remove the lower drivetrain and front suspension frame bolts/screws.
    
13. Remove the engine mount assembly.
    
14. Remove the flywheel inspection cover.
    
15. Remove the starter.
    
16. Disconnect the transaxle mount assembly from the oil pan.
    
17. Unfasten the side bolts and screws and the retaining bolts and screws, then remove the oil pan. Remove and discard the oil pan gasket.

To install:

1. Clean the gasket mating surfaces.
   
2. Apply a small amount of sealer on either side of the rear main bearing cap, where the seal surface on the cap meets the cylinder block. Install a new gasket on the oil pan.
   
3. Position the oil pan and secure with the retaining bolts and screws. Tighten the retaining bolts and screws to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm) and the side bolts/screws using tool J 39505 or equivalent.
   
4. Fasten the transaxle mount assembly to the oil pan.
   
5. Install the starter motor.
   
6. Install the flywheel inspection cover.
   
7. Install the engine mount assembly.
   
8. Carefully raise the drivetrain and front suspension assembly. Install the rear drivetrain and front suspension frame bolts/screws.
   
9. Fasten the engine mount frame side nuts to the drivetrain and front suspension frame assembly. Install the transaxle mount frame side nuts to the drivetrain and suspension frame assembly.
   
10. Remove the jackstands from the drivetrain and front suspension frame assembly.
    
11. Install the engine splash shield and the oil level sensor.
    
12. Install the intermediate steering shaft bolt/screw. Connect the front exhaust manifold pipe.
    
13. Carefully lower the vehicle.
    
14. Remove the engine support tools.
    
15. Install the electric cooling fan assemblies.
    
16. Install the engine mount strut and A/C compressor, bracket and the engine mount strut bracket.
    
17. If removed, install the hood assembly.
    
18. Fill the crankcase to the correct level. Connect the negative battery cable. Run the engine to normal operating temperature and check for leaks.

There are 4 screws on the canopy which is the part that is mounted to the ceiling box . Just remove those screws it will come down . Hope this helps.

Blower Motor
Removal & Installation
To Remove:

1. Evacuate and recover air conditioning refrigerant.
   
2. Remove battery.
   
3. Disconnect and cap A/C lines at evaporator tubes.
   
4. Remove blower motor assembly drain.
   
5. Remove glove box.
   
6. Remove 5 screws and right hand instrument panel lower trim panel.
   
7. Remove screw that attaches upper center console to gain access to left
   instrument panel lower support.
   
8. Remove left and right bolt and remove instrument panel lower support.
   
9. Detach control cable from inlet duct.
   
10. Disconnect blower motor electrical connector.
    
11. Pull carpet back and remove hole cover plate.
    
12. Remove 2 bolts at top of blower motor assembly.
    
13. Remove 2 nuts that attach bottom of blower motor assembly to mounting studs
    on bulkhead.
    
14. Remove blower motor assembly.

To Install:

1. Install blower motor assembly.
   
2. Install 2 bolts at top of blower motor assembly.
   
3. Install 2 nuts that attach bottom of blower motor assembly to mounting studs
   on bulkhead.
   
4. Install hole cover plate and replace carpet.
   
5. Connect blower motor electrical connector.
   
6. Install instrument panel lower support and install left and right bolts.
   
7. Install right hand instrument panel lower trim panel and 5 screws.
   
8. Install glove box.
   
9. Install blower motor assembly drain hose.
   
10. Connect evaporator lines at bulkhead.
    
11. Evacuate and charge air conditioning refrigerant.
    
12. Install battery.

In general, the steps are:

1. Turn off power at the breaker -- not just the light switch.
(There are still "hot" wires in the junction box when "Off".)

2. Take out any light bulbs.

3. Remove any light globes. Some screw in, but most are held by springs so just pull gently with a bit of force.

4. Remove fan blades. Most have a spring at the inside edge of the blade -- press down on the spring and push the blade toward the fan motor.

5. Remove the ceiling mount cover. There is usually a circular ring up next to the ceiling; just twist it off with your hands ("lefty - loosy, righty-tighty").

6. Unscrew the ceiling mount screws. Usually there is one or two in a "simple" hole, and two one "sliding" slots. Take out the "simple" screws, and loosen (but don't remove) the "sliding" screws. Be careful not to drop screws or washers into the fan motor.

7. Twist off the ceiling mount cover to expose the wiring.

8. Disconnect all wires. For safety, put a wire nut on the wires from the ceiling.

9. Tip the fan and remove it from the ceiling mount. Keep in mind that the fan is pretty heavy, and you're on a ladder!

NOTE: Be careful not to put any pressure on any of the blade holders, especially if you intend to re-use the fan. If you do, the blades will wobble.

10. If you're installing a new fan, you can probably re-use the mount. If you want to put up a simple light fixture, remove the mount by unscrewing the two long screws holding it to the junction box.

Engine Fan REMOVAL & INSTALLATION 3.8L Engines

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the radiator upper sight shield.
3. Disengage the electrical connector, then remove the integrated relay control/constant control relay module assembly located on the radiator support.

5. If necessary, remove the air bag crash sensor.
6. Unbolt the fan/shroud assembly from the radiator and remove. Fig. 2: Unbolt the fan assembly from the radiator

   Fig. 4: Slide the fan as an assembly up and away from the radiator. Be careful not to dislodge the mounting stud on the left side.
   
   
7. Remove the retainer and the fan from the motor shaft and unbolt the fan motor from the shroud.
8. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedures. Tighten the fan shroud retaining bolt to 23–33 inch lbs. (2.6–3.7 Nm). Tighten the fan shroud retaining nut to 71–106 inch lbs. (8–12 Nm). Fig. 5: Constant control relay module location — 3.8L engines
   

4.6L Engine

1. Loosen the fan clutch-mounting shaft from the water pump hub.
2. Loosen the fan shroud from its radiator mounting and remove the lower hose from the shroud.
3. Lift the fan and clutch assembly and the fan shroud from the vehicle.
4. If necessary, remove the fan-to-fan clutch retaining bolts and separate the fan from the fan clutch. CAUTION
   Closely examine the fan for cracks or separation, to avoid the possibility of personal injury or vehicle damage. To install:
   
5. Assemble the fan and fan clutch. Tighten the retaining bolts to 15–20 ft. lbs. (20–27 Nm).
6. Install the fan and clutch assembly and the fan shroud. Mount the fan clutch shaft to the water pump hub and tighten to 37–46 ft. lbs. (50–62 Nm).
7. Slip the shroud into the lower mounting clips and install the shroud retaining screws. Fig. 6: Fan and fan clutch assembly — 4.6L engine
   

5.0L Engines

1. Loosen the fan clutch-to-water pump hub retaining bolts.
2. If necessary, remove the drive belt from the water pump pulley.
3. Remove the fan shroud upper retaining screws. Lift the shroud to disengage it from the lower retaining clips.
4. Remove the fan clutch-to-water pump hub bolts and remove the fan and clutch assembly and the fan shroud.
5. If necessary, remove the fan-to-fan clutch retaining bolts and separate the fan from the fan clutch. CAUTION
   Closely examine the fan for cracks or separation, to avoid the possibility of personal injury or vehicle damage. To install:
   
6. Assemble the fan and fan clutch. Tighten the retaining bolts evenly and alternately to 12–18 ft. lbs. (16–24 Nm).
7. Install the fan and clutch assembly and the fan shroud.
8. Install the fan clutch-to-water pump hub bolts.
9. Slip the shroud into the lower mounting clips and install the shroud retaining screws.
10. If removed, install the water pump drive pulley and adjust the belt tension; refer to Section 1.
11. Tighten the fan clutch-to-water pump hub bolts evenly and alternately to 15–22 ft. lbs. (20–27 Nm). Recheck the belt tension.

The good news is that this is a relatively easy item to remove and replace, as they make a replacement fan/motor unit (sub assembly) that you can swap out for the old one.

All you need to do is pull down on the trim vent plate and then squeeze the wire retainer clips together to remove the grill/trim.

Once you've done that, you can unplug the fan portion of the exhaust fan unit from the base enclosure. Now simply remove the screw or nut that holds the fan and mounting plate into the enclosure and simply pull it down and pivot it out of the enclosure - you might have to push in on the side of the enclosure where you removed the screw/nut to get the fan and metal plate out of the cabinet.

The replacement fans usually come with a new metal mounting plate that fits many of the older exhaust fans, but if your's looks different or doesn't work, you can remove the fan and install just the fan motore onto your old metal fan mounting plate.

Instructions are typically included in the replacement unit packages. This is also very simple to do with only 2 screws holding the fan onto the mounting plate.

Once you're done, simply hook the edge of the plate back into the fan enclosure and then push it up and fasten the mounting screw/nut onto the plate and plug the fan into the ceiling enclosure and replace the grill plate and you're all set!

Try twisting the bezel (cover) counterclockwise to unlock it from the mounting base plate on the ceiling. The other option is to see if the bezel/cowl has fasters (screws) holding it in place either from the sides near the top edge or at the bottom nearest the narrow portion of the cover.

Sometimes the fan cowl bezel is fastened using screws at the point nearest the motor shaft.

There could also be a trim ring that needs to be gently pryed off from the edge nearest the ceiling, so you can gain access to the screws that are holding the cowl in place on the mounting plate. There are usually 2 sets of 2 screws placed 180 degees apart from each other that secure the cowl in place.

2. Remove fan shroud retaining bolts, and cooling fan motor/blade/shroud assembly.
3. Remove fan blade retaining clips and blades.
4. Remove motor mounting screws and motors.
5. If necessary, remove Constant Control Relay Module (CCRM).
6. Reverse procedure to install. Torque CCRM screws to 40-56 in lb, and shroud retaining bolts to 24-48 ft lb.
