I have a ventless gas heater. the pilot lights

I have a ventless gas heater. the pilot lights just fine then the pilot goes to a small bulb of a flame and then turns off. pretty much the same happens if I try to light it manually. I have cleaned everything like the cleaning manuel said. this unit also has the electri light but it does the same only shut off immediatly when the pilot light goes down. The unit got continually worse about shuting off after being lit. Now it will not lite at all. Thanks George

It just has a little dust in the pilot safety and that makes it think low oxygen levels are present. Ti correct that situation I flush the pilot safety device with rust buster, I relight the heater with pretty good success. I have a page which shows where to clean and has a nice demo which shows exactly how it works HERE

I have a pyromaster ventless gas fireplace. the pilot will light but will not stay lit unless i'm depressing the pilot

Your thermo-couple is bad. It`s the rod the pilot light hits with a very small copper tube that goes to the gas valve. You can pick one of these up at your local hardware store for about 15 bucks and they are easy to change.

Pilot light won't light on ventless fireplace

Ventless Gas logs, Vanguard, VS30PR. Propane gas
Pilot light stays lit various times, sometimes for several days then other times for a few minutes. Lights best when temp outside is below freezing. Pilot flame appears to receive too much air. How do you adjust the pilot flame? Is this done using two screws marked A & E? Do you have suggestions?
Thanks,
Ed

How do you shut down

the pilot light always stays on, its designed to allow your heater to turn on by itself without you needing to light a match every time. if the pilot light is burning you have nothing to worry about. its when the pilot light goes out that a small amount of gas leaks into the room. and by small i mean smaller than a hand held lighter... if you still want to shut the entire thing down you could turn off the gas line feeding the heater or possibly the whole house, otherwise the pilot light will stay on. as far as the actual heater turning off, thats probably controlled by some sort of thermostat somewhere. if you set the temp to very cold it should stay off. if that doesn't work then you may need a new thermostat.
