High-pitched sound when using surround sound

Good sound on system when cds or dvds are playing. However a high pitch sounds emits when surround sound switched to satelite tv.

Only suggestion obtained is possible capacitor in power unit?????

I had this problem. I (after some time) localized it as related to the FM / AM tuner funtion. By changing the FM station to one with excellent reception and then switching back to say Video 1 I could eliminate the whine. Ditto to the above. After 4 years of good use, all of a sudden, I got the whine when viewing TV in surround. DVDS still have the surround quite clearly, but the Video 1 & 2 are like fingernails on a chalkboard. Will Try Brad's fix. Ditto to the above. Same problem, issued appeared for first 30 second when unit was turned on, now it is on all the time. Went to Video 2 no change. Intresting is that it bother my wife and I, but my kids do not seems to care.

I am having the exact same problem. High pitched squeal starting in first 5 minutes after switching ON. I called the Sony customer service and they are saying they are hearing this problem for the first time for this unit. Infact the customer service rep. was referring to the central defect database for this unit.



This is the second problem with this unit. The first one I had was that the DVDs got struck inside and the unit will always go to Standby mode when I power off. So if I have to use this unit, I need to power off by pulling the electric plug off the outlet and the power it ON again.



Anybody know of any place (like BBB) for complaining this kind of mass manufactured defective units?

Product Sony DAV-FC9 System high pitched whine System is 5 years old and it started about 2 weeks ago, found if you mutted the sound for 5 to 10 min it went away. Had the disc ejection problem also but Sont fixed it as it was under warranty.

I have the same high pitched squealing sound from my sony dav-fc7 system which is there for minimally 10 minutes however, it is intermittent? If I disconnect the FM antenna it gets worse.......I did not see Brad's suggested fix...where can I find this?

Same problem... high-pitched noice when on video 1 or video two, but only when I am not watching anything on TV. Sounds great when it running, but you turn off the tv and leave on the stereo and after about 3 seconds, the noice starts.
